Cultural exchange

What Makes It Awesome? / Why Choose This Place

Are you a solo traveller looking to immerse yourself in new perspectives and meaningful connections? At my home , you’re welcomed into a personal home where cultural exchange and shared experiences are at the heart of daily life. Learn from others, share your traditions, and enjoy new ways of living together—all while surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the Soča Valley.

We’re building a home life rooted in creativity, collaboration, and respect for nature. Currently, our house and garden is an on going project—projects that grow and evolve over time, offering opportunities to share ideas, learn, and explore. Each year, our vision for cultural exchange and friendship deepens, and we warmly welcome friends and cultural visitors from around the world to connect, share, and experience life together.

Note: this is a private home, not a business or rental, and stays here are offered only to friends and cultural visitors.

I’m an artist, designer, and paraglider originally from Scotland. I love the outdoors and have spent years traveling—most recently in the Soča Valley, where I fell in love with both the scenery and the local community. You’ll often find me flying my glider or working on projects around the house and garden, ready to share the space and experiences with friends and cultural visitors. I’m a creative thinker, maker, and designer, passionate about reimagining the way we live, share ideas, and connect with one another. I work in all sorts of materials and thrive alongside other creative minds , everyone is equal — we don’t see visitors as “volunteers” but as fellow travelers in cultural exchange. Our aim is to share values, exchange ideas, and co-create a welcoming, vibrant space. Long-term, I hope to collaborate with artists and designers, grow food and flowers, and explore wellness practices like yoga and meditation together. Anyone who joins can expect respect, collaboration, and a warm, open environment where creativity and ideas are valued. Important: this is a private home and cultural exchange space, not a business or guesthouse. We do not host volunteers, and we cannot assist with visas — this is purely a personal, cultural exchange experience.

The cultural exchange here felt very natural an meaningful. We spent time sharing food, trading recipes, and even talking about our gardens and different approaches from our home countries. One of the highlights for me was spending time with their 3-year-old son, who is such a bright and fun companion in the garden and around the house. I also enjoyed meeting other volunteers staying at the house as part of the cultural exchange - it created a sense of community. Andrew and his family are pleasant hosts, and the area is stunning - I loved the chance to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Andrew has a lot of experiences and a lot of plans with the place which he like to share. There is still a lot of things to do, but because he has a vision with the place he always knows what he wants from you to do. The palce is working pretty good, because he has a system how he manages the place. And the nature around is wonderful and there's a lot of places to visit 😁

The Soča Valley is absolutely stunning ! We went down to the river every day, enjoying the rapids and the incredible scenery.
Most of us had to hitchhike from the nearest bus station to go to Andrew’s place (it’s about a 10 minute drive but over an hour on foot)
We worked in the morning all together. Andrew is very punctual which is great !
I worked on the computer, helping design the camper van.
Unfortunately, our stay was cut short. Due to local inspections and regulations, Andrew had to ask all seven of us to leave early.

Andrew welcomed me for a short visit. The people and the food were amazing! We visited the river most days, which was such a highlight. The work was easy—mainly gardening tasks like weeding and cleaning—and we played lots of card games in our downtime. I was especially lucky to be there while a professional chef was staying, so the food was truly exceptional. I'll really miss the vibe of the house and all the great people. Thank you for such a memorable stay!

Andrew is a great host, many thanks for having me. I had a great experience, starting on a new patio project. For a great, cool outdoor area to relax and enjoy meals or just reading a book.Would also be a great spot for watching the many paragliders in the air.For me, it was best to go down to the beach by the river after lunch. The colours of the water is pretty spectacular. Great for sunbathing and meeting locals. Lots of other walks also very close to walk for alone/ friends and nature time. Meeting and spending time with fellow travellers was special and will definitely stay with me!
