Cofradia Bilingual Center

The school is located in the lovely town of Cofradia, Cortes, near to the Carribean coast of Honduras. We aim to offer a top-quality, affordable bilingual education to our children and a level of community support and involvement that does not exist in the local public schools. Many of our kids come from very low socio-economic backgrounds and thanks to our volunteers we are able to offer them a free or low cost bilingual education they could not otherwise afford. Being bilingual in Honduras is a massive advantage and gives our kids the chance to end the cycle of poverty for themselves and for their families.

Our volunteers love working with the students at our school as well as the bond that is created between our teachers. At any one time we normally have between 4 and 6 volunteers teaching with us. Our volunteers typically spend the time after school together and often travel together at the weekends to the rivers in town.

I really enjoyed volunteering at CBC. I mostly taught kindergarten, 6th grade, and covered a few other classes. If you want to immerse yourself in the local culture and enjoy teaching, this is a great choice. Mr. Ariel and Ms. Dilcia always made sure we felt comfortable, and the teachers were welcoming. The school is still organizing some things, so schedules can get a bit messy, but with a few games or activities prepared ahead, you’ll do fine, I recommend to ask about the schedule. Overall, the staff made us feel at home, and Honduras welcomed us warmly, thank you so much for everything.

I spend a month at CBC, I had a blast with third and fifth graders, Mr Ariel is a great host and an amazing person, he always took care of our needs. If you have previous experience working with kids this is the place for you, otherwise it can get a bit challenging. I recommend you to prepare a schedule in advanced during the time you'll be volunteering. The meals offered are delicious.

I could not possibly say enough good things about this school and the volunteering experience! Ariel is amazing to work with and its so obvious how much everyone running the school loves the children. The children are so fun to teach and interact with and they are so welcoming to the volunteers! The apartment you live in is fantastic and the free meals you get at the school are so so delicious! I highly recommend this school to anyone looking to volunteer! I have taught places all over the world through volunteering & Worldpackers and this one is so special! Sending lots of love!!

I had an amazing time volunteering at Cofradia Bilingual School. Above all, it was definitely a learning experience for me. Mr. Ariel is absolutely lovely and really caring for the volunteers and students. Working with kids is always an up and down so you really have to commit to it but the love and joy you get in return is the biggest reward. The school lacks organisation sometimes and how things are supposed to be done are not always particularly clear. However, this gives you a lot of freedom with classes, which I personally preferred. Absolutely recommend!!

The staff is the sweetest, and the kids are amazing. I originally said I’d stay for 1 month, but at minimum it’s looking like I’m going to be staying here for at least 3. I’m so glad I came here. The staff members are so friendly and helpful, and Ariel is QUICK to resolve any problem that might arise. I could go on and on about how amazing teaching here has been!
