Characterful home

You'll have the opportunity to live in a comfortable family home, built around 1895, so in the 'Victorian' period of UK history. My home is in a neighbourhood typical of the time. Lincoln is an historical city with a Cathedral and a castle. Lincoln was a retirement town for Roman soldiers 2,000 years ago and there are still Roman remains here, including the oldest archway which is still driven under by cars (I go under it most days!). There are courses for heritage crafts at the Cathedral so stonemasons, glaziers and lead workers who work on similar historic buildings stay here. There is also a strong tradition of choral singing at the Cathedral where you can hear sung Anglican services every day. We are only about 50 kms from the east coast of England and can easily reach other places of interest, such as York, the Peak District, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leeds.
My position is not arduous - I'd like help getting organised and tidying cupboards and storage areas where there are too many things. Some cupboards and areas of the house need painting and I'd like help with that. I have a lot of pictures I'd like to frame and hang, an attic that needs emptying and a garden where I want help to prune and plant some things in the spring. One of the decks in the garden needs replacing. Alternatively, it is covering an old air-raid shelter from World War II, so we could empty the shelter of earth etc and restore it so that people could come to visit it! That sounds like a really interesting option actually! I've only just thought about it! I also have a 5 year old black Labrador (LouLou) who likes long walks on the nearby Common and, if you like dogs, perhaps you could walk her too. Are you the person (people) to help me sort my life out?

I'm a widowed mother of three grown-up daughters, two of whom have children and the third one is travelling the world. I live in my 4-bedroom house with a lodger and my Labrador. I also do Airbnb, but probably when you are here there wouldn't be Airbnb guests too. Although I'm old enough to retire, I still teach part-time. I've taught English all my life, so I'm happy to correct your English and give you exercises to do to help you improve with any problems you have with your English language, if you like. I have a cleaner every week, (. . . but perhaps you could help with some of the spring-cleaning projects that we don't often get round to, like washing paintwork and ornaments and taking down the curtains to wash, etc?).

Our time with Imogen was truly amazing! She's a wonderful person who has taught us so much about British life and many other things. We helped in the house by cleaning cupboards and walking her super cute dog Loulou. Also had the chance to participate in two english lessons and meet many people. Imogen is also a great cook and very considerate - even when we made mistakes. Lincoln is a very pretty city with lots to do, and we also took a day trip to York which is close. Couldn't recommend this place more, it's a experience that will forever stay with us. Thank you for everything ❤️

My time at Imogen’s was truly amazing! It was my first work and travel experience and it couldn’t have been better. The tasks were easy to understand (I helped out in the garden and house) and Imogen was so kind and attentive! I always felt welcomed and was never afraid to ask questions. I also got to join an English class and meet some lovely people, which was great! The city and the nature there are beautiful and definitely worth exploring, I’m really grateful for the time I spent there. LouLou, her sweet dog, made it even better! I’d recommend everyone to come to Lincoln :)

Volunteering at Imogen’s was a priceless experience. She treated me like family and always showed warmth and kindness. She asked about my dietary preferences and cooked delicious meals for my pescatarian diet. Dining together and talking about British culture was both enjoyable and educational. Imogen values community deeply, and she invited me to a harvest supper at Lincoln Cathedral—an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, I fell ill and had to leave a few days early, for which I’m truly sorry. I deeply hope to return and stay with her again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

This experience was absolutely splendid, just like being at home.Imogen is exceptionally kind, gentle, open-minded, and always there to help me. She has been patient in communicating with me, teaching me English. My main task was helping with housekeeping, which was flexible and gave me plenty of free time, and she even suggested trips to nearby cities. Loulou is the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. Imogen’s cooking is always delicious, and her family and friends are warm and welcoming. All in all, this has been an extraordinary British experience where I’ve learnt so much.
So appreciate🧡
