Candlebark@Elphinstone
Situated on 81/2 acres it’s a perfect location to escape, relax and take in the Australian countryside whilst also exploring the surrounding areas of Castlemaine, Daylesford and Macedon ranges. Nestled within the Great Dividing Range in Central Victoria, we are situated an easy 1hr and 15 min’s drive up the Calder Freeway from Melbourne.
We offer an eco-friendly back-to-nature experience beside our private billabong. Watch the spectacular sunsets from the campfire, toast marshmallow’s and listen to the abundant bird life including nesting kookaburras, whistling kites and our resident peacocks along with a chorus of frogs. Kangaroos are daily visitors.
Central Victoria is renowned for its eclectic arts scene, antiques, vineyards, gold rush history, fossicking opportunities, stargazing, walking, mountain bike trails and has a reputation as a fine food destination.
We are a semi retired couple in the process of setting up a glamping business. We love to create a warm, welcoming and friendly environment. We embraced sustainabilty and enjoy gardening, music, the arts and socialising with friends and family.
We ensure our practices are environmentally sustainable and recognise our impact on the environment. We take pride on being sustainable, focusing on reducing our carbon footprint. Sustainable practises permeate every aspect of the business. Our aim is to protect, restore and enhance the ability of the landscape to provide ecosystems that benefit both humans and other organisms. As our natural resources become increasingly depleted, there is a greater need to preserve and protect the environment. To his end, we have implemented progressive eco-friendly practices to responsibly lessen the impact on the environment, by:
building with recycled/repurposed materials wherever possible
generating electricity on site 11kw solar as well as 12kw batteries
installing low energy lighting
‘switch off’ policy for all electrical items, except fridges.
collecting rainwater on site
managing waste water and effluent on site
recycling all waste where possible
using only natural cleaning products where possible
paints used are non VOC
undertaking extensive revegetation works on the property
extensive weed management
using organic and sustainable practises and products on all gardens
use of compost and worm farms
lunar planting
minimising paper usage by using electronic mail, electronic receipts etc.
NB: when required use only recycled paper
buying in bulk and local where ever possible
being a member of the Elphinstone Land Management Association and a member of Land for Wildlife
introducing biodynamic and organic permaculture and Natural Sequence Farming principles
The creative design process is based on Permaculture & Natural Sequence Farming: a whole-systems thinking informed by ethics and design principles. These approaches mimic the patterns and relationships we can find in nature and can be applied to all aspects of human habitation, from agriculture to ecological building. These principles take into account the location, climatic conditions and resources that are available. It’s this holistic approach that helps us become more resilient in an era of change.
