Botanical Backpackers

We're great for volunteers who want to really feel at home in Belfast,
we'll show you the best cafes, walks, and ideas for a rainy day!
We have the loveliest volunteers, so you should meet some new friends while you work!

We're a little family here- everyone works hard, but we also help each other out whenever we can! The hostel is run by Erika (a Belfast local), and we usually have 2-3 volunteers at a time.

I had such a wonderful time during my stay! Everyone I met from staff and volunteers to guests were wonderful and so kind and welcoming. Had some brilliant experiences getting to know everyone and my only complaint is that I wish I stayed longer! Thank you so much to Erika, Emily and Anna you have all been so sweet 🩷

I had an absolutely incredible time volunteering at botanical backpackers. Erika was such a wonderful host/boss, so friendly and welcoming. Tasks were easy to do, well explained and set out. Erika was very accommodating to any changes in shift schedule that I requested which I really appreciated. Plenty of time to explore Belfast and Northern Ireland. The hostel itself is cosy and creates such a safe environment. A fantastic experience for my first Worldpackers volunteer position.

Working at Erica’s hostel was a great introduction to what Worldpackers can offer. Erica’s convivial and idiosyncratic personality gives the hostel character, and I’ll miss Erica’s captivating stories. The work provided a satisfying amount of physical activity, and I appreciated the trust Erica gave me to complete tasks independently. After requesting a locker, I was provided with one. However, having a curtain and a functioning door lock in my room would have improved my sense of security and privacy. Belfast is a charming city, and I particularly enjoyed visiting the Botanic Gardens.

Botanical backpackers truely is a home away from home. Erika is incredibly welcoming and has created such a wonderful safe space for travellers. The instructions of tasks and expectations were very clear and easy to follow. I would highly recommend Botanical Backpackers to anyone wanting to visit Belfast. There are so many amazing activities and sights to see in Belfast and Erika always has great suggestions to get you out doing things!

I had a lovely time volunteering at this Hostel, it is a very cosy and welcoming place! Erika was an amazing host, answered any questions I had and told very interesting stories :) There is so much to do around the hostel - from the causeway coast and the mourne mountains, to the botanic gardens and St George’s Market. There is a real community feel within the hostel and I loved getting to watch Eurovision with everyone! I would highly recommend!!
