Batworthy

We love meeting new people, cultural exchange, trying new cuisines, and are passionate about trying to live in a more sustainable way. If you would like to experience life in a typical English village in the west country and have some creative input, as well as interesting discussions around the dinner table - get in touch! We have lots of experience with volunteers and are keen to expand our network to include Workpackers

We love living in the country and really enjoy living in this part of the world. At the moment it is just the two of us, Claire who is an art teacher married to James who is a timber frame carpenter/instructor. We are interested meeting new people and cultural exchange and feel it is important to create opportunities for young people to travel and have affordable experiences. We feel very privileged to have a field which is becoming a more complex ecosystem every year and the planned pond will benefit the wildlife too. We try to grow as many vegetables as possible and the poly tunnel is a huge benefit. We have planted many apple trees as well as making new paddocks with different hedgerow varieties.

James and Claire were wonderful hosts! They always seemed to have our best interests in mind and it was always a great time chatting with them. We learned a lot about the area and the culture. The tasks we completed were fun, and we also got to enjoy the beautiful countryside on most days we worked. I highly recommend!

We had an amazing time with James and Claire! James and Claire are so fun to get to know and hear about their lives. The work schedule is really reasonable and the work was enjoyable if you enjoy being outside and doing something different most days. Sherborne is only about 20 minutes away by bike and there is the beautiful countryside to explore in afternoons off as well. The provided food was always great and the dinner conversation was even better. We will miss James, Claire and the animals!

We had a very nice stay with Claire and James.
We thank them for their good hospitality, they were always asking us if we needed something. They taught us the work that we had to do, which was really enjoyable and in a beautiful place.
If you are thinking to have a great volunteering in the UK, I absolutely recommend staying with them!
