Ater Tumti - creating heaven on earth

We are looking for volunteers from end of may till end of june to give a hand in the kitchen and cleaning rooms for a retreat beginning of June.

Hi beautiful people, welcome to our profile!

We are a small team living in this retreat center & community. Most of the work consists of clearing the land, weeding and caring for plants and the vegetable garden, painting, maintenance, landscaping, cleaning, daily cooking for the team and if you have social media and booking system qualities, then they are also more then welcome!

The property is around 15 ha (150.000sqm/ 40+ acres) on terraced slopes with dry stone rock walls (without cement) 500m above sea level on the slopes of the Etna volcano facing the Ionian sea and the mainland Calabria. We are 1 km away from Presa, a small village with 80 inhabitants, and 3 km from Piedimonte Etneo, about 35 minutes walk, here you can find buses to Catania, Taormina, Messina and other interesting destinations. At 4 km there is the village of Linguaglossa, where you can rent a car if you want to move more comfortably, prices range from 30€ to 60€ per day depending on the season.

We want to make you aware that we are in the countryside, outside the town, so if you travel without a car you will have to be ready to walk to reach buses and stations. We are not mom and dad and we don't do taxi service. The only transport services that we guarantee are on your arrival and your departure, that we pick you up and take you to Piedimonte Etneo.

Do NOT come to Ater Tumti if :
* You have physical problems. You need to be physically healthy, so if you have back problems or any other health issue what disables you from doing physical work, please skip.
* You have emotional trauma. We are not qualified as your shrink, nor parents.
* You only have a week to come over. Minimum stay is three weeks.
* you have problems with nudity. Some of the retreats deal with sex positiveness, tantra or sexuality. It does NOT mean you have to be naked, but there is a possibility that participants to retreats be naked. If that is triggering or disturbing, please skip.
Up to you if you like skinny dipping naked in the pool or put your bathing suit on.

You are invited to Ater Tumti if :
* You would you like to live and volunteer in a community based environment where you help realizing a dream. Then this experience can be for you.
* You are open minded and mature. We welcome open-minded people with shared interests who enjoy working whether outdoors or in nature with a joyful passion without drama and ego.

Take off the mask, open up yourself, get in touch with nature, share your skills, roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty and (most of all) have fun!

We are looking forward meeting you!

How to get to us from Catania Airport.
1. rent a car at the airport and drive to Ater Tumti
2. take the free navette shuttle from the airport to the station (5 minute drive) and from there take the train from the airport to Fuimefreddo. From the station in Fuimefreddo take the bus to Piedemonte Etneo where we will pick you up at the post office. Limited busses on saterday, no busses on sunday.
3. take the ALIBUS from the airport to catania bus terminal. There take the FCE bus with direction Randazzo via A18 and get of at Piedemonte Etneo, where we can pick you up.

Best to download the app 'fromRiotoRome' for time schedules for bus and train.

We live with a small team on this property. We share meals, work and good conversations. We prefer to communicate very open and clear and we love to do an open hearted sharing circle almost every week. We personally evaluate every week with you and only continue when both of us are happy with each other's exchange and energy. We mainly eat vegetarian, but don't mind the exception once in a while. We provide basic healthy food, mostly organic. We don't provide alcohol, meat, fish, sweets, soda's etc. So if you are in need of any of those, you have to provide and prepare for them yourself. If you are vegan or any other dietary needs, you will need to buy the special products yourself and prepare your food. You need to share an apartment with one shared bathroom with the other volunteers. There is a separated dorm for women and a private room available with a double bed for a couple. Here is an example of the works that we do : * In october/november you can help harvest olives and you will be able to experience the proces from 'olive on the tree' to 'extra pure virgin olive oil'. * Helping pruning the olive trees or (taking away the branches and burn them) (nov-dec-jan-feb-mar). * Helping building dry stone walls in the fields. * Weeding the garden. * Taking care and watering of the vegetable gardens and plants. * Cleaning out the pool (areas) and preparing for spring/summer (april-may). * Spraying the olive trees with bio products (feb march). * Painting walls, doors and fences inside and outside. * Cleaning up ashes from the volcano all over the property. * Cooking lunch for the team. * General cleaning tasks. * General maintenance tasks. * Chopping wood for the fireplaces. * Preparing rooms and shala for the retreats

My bf & I volunteered at this retreat centre up in beautiful mountains. It is impossible to explore surrounding areas without a car, if you are happy to enjoy property & stay in nature then not needed. We enjoyed working together on a common goal, the duties to prepare for upcoming retreat was more than 5hrs a day however Filip was understanding & kind & showed generosity to us in other ways to say thank u. We loved Ciro the chef! He was so fun & kind. Sometimes host can become stressed during retreats, just be proactive & remember to not take things too intensely. Overall, would recommend!

My stay at Ater Tumti was beautiful, I met very nice people, the view was incredible and they were attentive to me. It is a place that, under a slightly larger team, will continue to grow. Thank you very much for your special stay.
