Algersans gave truly everything I wanted and more!

I wanted to work reeeally hard, like a real farmer would. I wanted to learn about bamboo, obviously. I wanted to be deeply immersed in local culture. I wanted to be surrounded by nature everyday.

I didn’t expect to be welcomed by a beautiful community and to feel so safe and loved. I didn’t expect to have an opportunity to forage my own food with Ate Emi, a village legend in my opinion 😅 And I didn’t expect to form a true friendship with Toto, who was beyond accommodating, generous & accepting.

I wish I had more space to write! ♥️

This project is perfect for those who want to explore the possibilities of bamboo and experience the hard work involved in cultivating your own land. Toto is an excellent teacher, who uses the principle of learning by doing, helps you find answers, thoroughly explains the background to his decisions, and open to your ideas as well. If you would also like to see the dynamics of a village and don't mind being a bit isolated, don't hesitate to apply! :)

Toto and his family were amazing hosts! I instantly felt welcomed in their home. Toto was always paying attention to the work you do to make sure you do it correctly & safely. At the same time he let you work by yourself as soon as he got the feeling you could. During the hot days the work was quite tiring, so be prepared for that. The other volunteers were also super fun and I enjoyed doing day trips with them to the beach/etc. Over all it was a very cool experience to get to know the permaculture behind a bamboo farm and I had a lovely time with everyone, see you soon!

My time at Algersans Bamboo Farm provided valuable hands-on learning in sustainable agriculture, with both rewarding moments and opportunities for personal growth.
Algersans offers exactly what it promises - real agricultural work in a beautiful Philippine setting. Those seeking a structured volunteer program with modern comforts might find it challenging, while volunteers valuing hands-on learning and cultural immersion will appreciate the experience.

Before the volunteering experience, the host was warm and fun, which motivated us to come. Unfortunately, once on-site,his tone and attitude changed drastically. The work was hard, as expected, but the lack of respect and consideration made the stay difficult. We are sorry but we wouldn’t recommend this experience, but we thank the host and his parents for welcoming us into their home.

This is a fair review. The time that Lea & Pedro were at algersan's was extra challenging. I explained this to them before and during their stay. Note: Pedro is a great worker but started speaking English only 6 months earlier. It took extra energy & bandwidth to communicate/instruct. Lea was great at translating.
I appreciate the feedback, understand that I'm human, and continue to work on being my best.
