Truly an amazing experience at the guest house! The hosts were very welcoming and helpful and I was able to form close connections with them, the other volunteers and the long time residents. The guesthouse is very social, we were cooking and sharing meals together almost everyday. There are also group events at least once a month, where you get to experience Japanese cuisine, learn the Japanese language and hang out with the little community. The work is standard for a guesthouse and pretty easy, every part of it was as agreed on. Couldn't recommend enough, I feel like I have a new family in kochi!

We’re so glad LuLuLu felt like home for you — we truly enjoyed the time together and already miss you!

Thank you for your honest thoughts about the lounge. We understand how the changes may have felt limiting, and we really appreciate how much you valued it as a space to connect with others. It gave us a lot to think about.

We’ll keep working to make LuLuLu even more welcoming.
Can’t wait to see you again someday! 😊

Five stars is the maximum, but the guest house deserves more! I loved every day I spent in Kochi. Thank you to everyone for this experience! The staff is lovely. Several different events are organized each week (barbecue, Japanese cuisine, Japanese language classes). The work is easy and is done in a good atmosphere. I made many unforgettable memories (I miss you all).

I worked with the guest house team in March and had a fantastic experience. The work was pretty standard hostel work and nothing stressful or strenuous. The team was very inclusive and social with group outings and shared meals to immerse in the local culture, and along with other long-term guests it felt like a nice little community of people. The hosts also made a great effort to encourage cultural exchange by facilitating presentations by volunteers about our home countries to guests and staff which I really enjoyed. Huge shoutout to all the staff for being a part of my Japan journey! Thank you!

Hey Michael,

Thank you so much for your lovely message!
It really meant a lot to us. I’m so glad you enjoyed your time at LuLuLu — learning Japanese, exploring Kochi, and just hanging out together.

Knowing that you want to come back to Kochi and stay at LuLuLu again makes us super happy. You’ll always have a place here, and we’ll be waiting for you with curry and good vibes!

Take care and keep in touch!
Looking forward to seeing you again som

The best part about the guest house definetly was the social aspect. All of the staff were super helpfull from the start and we were able to grow much closer during my time. Since the guest house also has a sharehouse next to the Guesthouse, there are long-term residents, which makes everything feel like a large family. Kochi itself is quite a lively city for its size and there are many good places to eat. The work was exactly as agreed, altough you might work less in one week and then more the next. I can only recommend the work here, since I feel like I found a family in Japan and had a lot of fun.

Hi Sean thank you for the review about LuLuLu!
we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and so happy that you said you felt like you found family in Kochi!
too bad, if we had more time we could have gone to many more good places in Kochi together like we did to Ryugado cave and Sakawa Naumann Karst
sorry about the work schedule. it didnt work good for you sometimes because there were not enough helpers in LuLuLu then. but you gave us great advice, we improve the shift!
thank you again!!

The guest house is a so nice place to stay ! It's like a big family, feeling home during 5 weeks... I have my own room during my stay 👍 The task are easy and your coworker very kind with you, you gonna do cleaning and bed making, serving and eating food with customers, and closing the shared space. 2 days off. Every day free breakfast and free dinner, lovely. Kochi is so nice, full of life. The castle is enjoyable, center of the city, temple... If you love climbing go to sonic climbing garage ;) The nature around is beautiful, gorges, waterfall👌. (Easyer to move by car) I recommend 100%

Taro-san and Kayano-san and all the staff welcomed me in so warmly to the guest house and into their life that I feel like I have gained a new family! Kochi has abundant of nature, good food, culture and city life all in one place. Being able to borrow their bike to go explore was a big plus. 24hr Lawson 20 seconds walk away and the supermarket 2 minutes walk away was super convenient! It was a good opportunity to meet other international volunteers and travellers over free curry dinners as well. I ended up extending my stay here, and recommend volunteering for the guest house!

I stayed at the guest house from mid July to the end of August 2024. I was welcomed by Taro San and his family who are incredibly generous and hospitable people. There are plenty of things to see in Kochi City like the Botanical Gardens, Ryugado caves and museums about local historical figure Ryoma Sakamoto. My personal highlight was seeing the Yosakoi Festival that takes place every August, don't miss it! The tasks were fairly simple to complete. Work plans can change from time to time so it's good to be adaptable. My Japanese improved so much working here. Thank you!
