The guest house was a great experience! The work was easy and it was fun to bake bread for dinner. Taro, Kayano and everyone there was super nice and I spent a really great month in Kouchi! The live music and curry everyday were really enjoyable. Kouchi is a quiet city but the surrounding nature is beautiful and you can still have fun downtown! Also everyone helped with my japanese learning, which was really helpful.I would definitely recommend the guest house to anyone!

This was my first world packers experience and it was fantastic. The owners are friendly, create a welcoming atmosphere and approachable. The work is simple and manageable, consisting mostly of cleaning in the morning shift and kitchen hand in the evening. Most of the time the work stays under the 4 hours agreement, allowing you more free time if work is finished early. The other staff and volunteers were all friendly and willing to help. I am also learning Japanese and both the staff and the owners were always open to answering any of the questions I had! Overall would recommend the guest house!

I stayed at the guest house with my girlfriend for 1 month. Very cosy place, located in a convenient area for restaurants/shops and attractions (including a Lawson). The owners make you feel at home with dishes cooked by them and live music every day. You also have the possibility to use the bikes of the structure. I recommend it to anyone who wants to try a really special experience, beautiful and like a real local!

This was my first experience with Worldpackers and the guest house really set the bar high! I loved my time there: the staff was super friendly and very welcoming, the guesthouse is nice and together with my boyfriend we got a solo room, something that made the whole stay even more comfortable. We also had access to the guesthouse's bikes every day of our stay! The work is pretty easy: some days is busier and some other days is more chilled. And as for the city, Kochi is a gem! A very friendly and unique place where we got to see a different side of Japan. I most definitely recommend staying here!

My time at the guest house has been one of my fondest memories in Japan. The family-run guesthouse is lively every night, with magical performances, engaging staff and delicious curry. Taro and Kayano were wonderful hosts — work hours were respected, day trips around Shikoku were arranged, and we were well fed every day. The location is fantastic, with plenty of nearby dining options and a beautiful river just minutes away. Kochi may be a bit remote, but it's a fun and welcoming city. I'd highly recommend coming here to help out!

I can wholly recommend staying at the guest house. You will be welcomed as a member of the family, literally. Together with the owners and guests you can enjoy breakfast, curry time and the guest house band's live music, all of which makes for lovley connections. Work is straightforward and well communicated. I particularly enjoyed preparing food with Kayano! Kochi city is a nice place for getting to know the people of Japan - my Japanese improved a lot here thanks to spending so much time in the company of locals. I wish all the best for the guest house :)

The guest house was an incredible place to stay, and I can't recommend it enough. The owners were truly amazing—so kind, thoughtful, and welcoming from the very beginning. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and their hospitality made the experience unforgettable. Kochi itself was stunningly beautiful, with breathtaking ocean views, a rich local culture, and amazing food that made every day feel special. It's a place full of charm and peace, where there's always something new to explore and appreciate. Between the warmth of the owners and the beauty of Kochi, the guest house was the

I volunteered at the guest house in July and August, and hear me out: it was the best volunteering experience I've ever had. Kayano and Taro are truly caring, and they know how to make you feel right at home. As described, the tasks are not that complicated, and everyone is ready to explain things if you encounter any difficulties. The hostel is ideally located, close to the river, with a supermarket next door and a tram station right in front. Bikes are also provided, giving you the freedom to explore Kochi wherever you want. I wholeheartedly recommend coming to the guest house (and not just for the curry!)

The guest house is a great place to experience Japan, nature, friendship, and an easygoing life. I came at the tailend of an era, as now the guest house is deciding to rebrand as a music guesthouse. It sounds very cool moving forward, though I will say this may mean the nature of the volunteer work will change. There were some times I wished communication came earlier, but other than that Taro is very accomodating, Kayano is kind, and Jo and Yuri do their best to keep things running and everyone happy. You'll have plenty of free time to explore the city, but having a Japanese drivers' license is a game changer

Time flew by, but thanks for spending such a meaningful time with us.
You came right when LuLuLu was going through a big change, and we really appreciated your support!

Also, thanks for being honest about the communication — we'll do our best to make things smoother for future helpers.

Come back and visit anytime!
By then, the music and food will be even better than before 🎶
