I stayed at Ban Bon Doi homestay for two weeks and had a great time. The place was so peaceful and relaxing and the food was good. The town is only a 15min walk away, which is very convenient. I also met some amazing people there, including Gong who is really nice. It was a good experience and I would definitely recommend it.

This was our first volunteer experience and we definitely recommend it. The food was delicious, the space was really peaceful, people were very welcoming and the working hours were reasonable. Be aware that this place is quite far from Chiang Mai but it's a very nice place if you want to take a break and relax. We wished we could have more activities with others volunteers and learn how to cook more. Overall it's was a very good experience!

This experience was a great way to meet other travellers and the food and accommodation was terrific. However, the volunteering online was quite a lot of work, and in an area far away from everything.

Here are the details of the work:

Each English teaching session lasts 40 minutes.
Each volunteer will not work more than 6 classes per day, which is the maximum number.
This means you will be working a total of 240 minutes (4 hours) per day.
In exchange for your work, we provide accommodation and three meals a day. This arrangement was communicated to you before you agreed to volunteer.

I have prepared accommodations within my home, which include air-conditioned rooms. Each room will be shared by approximately four people. Please note that we provide hosting services and do not have the expertise of a hotel.

The only good thing was the food and the beautiful garden. Other than that, there was little guidance/direction. The classes felt really long, like a shift at a call center. They don't allow you to turn on the AC from 8am-10pm it was so hot. The people who live there never talked to us or even said hello, they would walk by and not even turn our way. But when they noticed we turned on the AC they would come yell at us. I felt extremely unwelcome. They pretty much have people go in for cheap labor for their online English school business. We didn't even do the activities they offered.

Air Conditioning Usage Policy:
We limit the use of air conditioning because it cannot be run 24 hours a day, every day. The compressor needs periods of rest. We allow usage during the following times:

10:00 PM to 8:00 AM to ensure a comfortable night's sleep.
11:00 AM to 3:00 PM during the hottest part of the day.
We provide full service to volunteers during these periods. The times when the air conditioning is off are:

8:00 AM to 11:00 AM (3 hours)
3:00 PM to 8:00 PM (5 hours)
In summary, within a 24-hour period, we provide 16 hours of air conditioning and 8 hours of rest for the machine. We believe this is the most appropriate balance. This is the best we can do.

Team Interaction Clarification:
Regarding your comment that our team did not greet you, this may be because you have tasks to complete throughout the day and you are working in an air-conditioned room. Our team was unsure if greeting you would disturb your work.

This is my clarification on the matter.

It's a really nice setting, lots of free time to chill & explore the area. An important note that is not described in post is that it is teaching online. Up to 6 classes of 40 minutes sometimes back to back. Food was great! Generally a good experience.

The place is nice however the volunteer hub is terrible. No one welcomed us upon arrival and we were on our own the whole day. There are no other volunteers. No one explained our tasks, we were just sent an incomplete pdf file. We felt lonely and unsafe, the host never showed up even though we asked to see her a few times.

I am the organizer of this volunteer program to help teach English, which I have set up myself. Everything is scheduled clearly. We work as a team: Gong and Base take care of the volunteers, my mother and aunt cook, and I handle volunteer emails. What you mentioned about no one taking care of you is not true. Volunteers are always taken care of.

When you arrived, my team members, Base and Gong, welcomed you. They explained how to live in my house and provided a guideline document for you to read in advance about how the work is done. Previous volunteers read this document, understood it, and were able to work immediately.

You and your friend arrived and asked me to meet you, but I was unavailable. That night, I came home very late and had to leave early in the morning for work. I know what I need to do each day, and my mother and my team took care of you, so you were not left alone as you claimed. However, you only stayed one night. I provided both food and accommodation without you starting any work for me, and then you left without notifying me.

I enjoyed my time at the school. It was a peaceful stay. It is in the middle of nowhere, so there isn't much to do.😂 I will say that the work hours are long. Sometimes you will have classes back to back with no break in between. We also could have been trained better. The job isn't difficult, but there wasn't much communication between the host and volunteers.

I had a wonderful experience here! The volunteers were welcoming and warming and the team was kind as well! Unfortunately I had to leave airlift earlier but they were understandable :)

My experience with Brainschool was great overall and great fun. They provided the right facilitates for all the volunteers to work well, as well as organising some fun activities throughout the week/evenings to get everyone together. They were extremely supportive for when I feel sick during my stay and was super understanding. I would definitely recommend any travellers to past by to volunteer at this school. It's a little out of the way of the city, in a rural area so there's not an awful lot else to offer but if you're looking for a reset this is a great place too!
