This was my first time using Worldpackers and I could ask for a better way to start :) Kuni and everyone at wanderkitchen and the hostels are very nice and welcoming. I got the chance to explore kamakura and the surroundings as well as Tokyo. I met a lot of unforgettable people and made the experience even better! Initially booked 2 weeks but ended up staying 2 more :) definitely recommend it

Although you only get the delicious meals from Kuni San and Ai San when you work, I enjoyed my time there. I met many lovely volunteers at the Gokurakuji House (40 min walk to Kamakura Station), staff from WanderKitchen and Bench and with a lot of freetime you can really get to know Kamakura, explore all the temples and nearby cities. The sunsets at the beach with Mount Fuji are amazing as well. I wouldn't recommend this experience to travelers who are working remotely. At the hostels there is good WiFi, but not at the Gokurakuji House.

This was my first Worldpackers experience and I'm so glad it was: Kuni and the staff were very welcoming and kind, leaving was sad. The work is easy to learn, you can meet the local staff as well as many international volunteers and travellers. On top of that they provide food and on some days delicious meals. Kamakura is a small quiet city but there's so much to see, it's perfect for nature lovers but really close to big cities as well !

The job at the hostals is really easy, and allows you to meet fellow travelers and to have more than enough time to tour around Kamakura and other cities. The frequency of shifts in a week differs according to the number of volunteers at that moment. Kuni and Ai San prepare delicious meals (dinner and breakfast) for you everytime you have a shift, adapting them to your allergies or dietary restrictions. The volunteer's dorm was a house that's around 35 minutes on foot from WanderKitchen, on a hill, and it worked okay when the number of volunteers was around 8.

My experience in Kamakura was very nice, the place is beautiful and offers a lot of things to see and explore especially for those who love the sea and want to experience the vibe of a seaside town not too chaotic. Although the house is a bit far from workplaces and the city centre, these can easily be reached by tram or a pleasant walk, I highly recommend an experience here!!!

I had an amazing time making friends with fellow volunteers and locals. Work is straightforward, giving me plenty of time to explore Kamakura and surrounding areas. On shift nights, we enjoy 2 meals from WanderKitchen - dinner and breakfast the following day. Otherwise, we're provided ingredients to cook for ourselves. Paradise Dorm, our volunteer residence, is 4 stations away from Kamakura Station — but the 40-minute walk is easily manageable. The location offers proximity to multiple beaches with a view of Mt. Fuji on a clear day. Overall, this has been a fantastic experience. ✨️

I enjoyed my two weeks in Kamakura. I was given a night shift with plenty of time off to explore the area. I was disappointed with the sleeping arrangement due to my room having no AC in hot humid summer weather, bugs and lack of space. Because of the room i had to leave the accommodation early as I couldn't sleep at all. Other rooms, however, do have AC and space. I also had hoped that the free meals were three a day but we are only given them when working. Despite everything, I was able to meet some great people and the work helped me improve my hospitality skills.

Kamakura is a beautiful place and Gokurakuji (where the volunteer house is located) is really cute. The tasks are quite simple, just be aware that with overnight shift they mean that you have to stay and sleep at the place you are scheduled at. Shifts usually go from 6-7pm until 10-11am the next day and the place to sleep may vary depending on the property (it can go from a bunk bed at the hostels to a cot in the restaurant/coffee shop kitchen). Food is provided either as grocery budget for the volunteer house or food at either of the restaurants owned by the host (only on shift days).

Kamakura is a lovely place to visit if you love being near to the beach. It has a lot of opportunity to explore local culture, as there are many temples and shrines around. The working days were not that many and the day staff were very kind and supportive. On the days that you work, you will be given breakfast and dinner. The food was very yummy :)
