Tao guesthouse
Tao guesthouse is an informal place situated in the country side of Laos.
Travellers could enjoy a chill vibe and stay in contact with the surrounding nature.
The guesthouse is located on the river side. The area features picturesque karst mountains, tropical forest and rice fields.
Besides the guesthouse we run a farm featuring a wide range of plants and quite a few animals
We also grow rice and among many other things we grow and process our own coffee.
We are hard working people passionate about nature and self sustainable agriculture. We like to make gardens, produce organic food and breed animals. We love to bring people in touch with the local culture, the nature and self sustainable ways of life.

It was a great experience. This was my first time volunteering, and I’m glad I chose this place. I came during the low season in summer, so there were no other volunteers. Every morning I was given some simple tasks to do for a few hours. It was never too long or too difficult.
They fed me three times a day with local food — I even got to try frogs! The meals were simple but tasty.
Mobile isn't perfect but ok. The dorm is quite basic — I would have liked a bit more furniture. The toilet could use some improvements, but there’s a hot shower available in the main house.

I gehadert an amazing time with a beautiful family in the mountains of Laos.
It was so interesting to learn about the self sufficient life in Laos while being surrounded by nature.

The working hours were exactly as said online, the work itself was very repetitive and physically demanding, but manageable. I volunteered with two friends. We hoped to meet other volunteers as well, which wasn't the case. There isn't anything to do in the afternoons, especially since the farm is in the countryside, so prepare to entertain yourself. One thing that kind of disappointed me, was that we weren't involved in the local life at all. The host Tao is a lovely woman (always friendly, cooking good food) but we didn't get to know her much, since we ate and worked on our own.

Tao and Michele are lovely people. We were working 4h in the morning as agreed. The work was very repetitive and a lot of weeding (no animal care as said in the description). However, we were not really integrated in the local life. In the morning we were working the three of us, at lunch Tao was preparing us great food but were eating on our own and in the afternoon we had free time but once again, difficult to enjoy the local life. The accommodation is rusty but ok. We went to a local festival once and that was nice. It is a good volunteering if you want some hard work and solo free time.

Tao and Michele are really nice, but the experience was far from what I expected.
Accomodation was uncomfortable (lot of insects biting
), the work was repetitive and really tiring, we were on our own the whole time and, being the farm in the middle of nowhere, it can be overwhelming if it's not what you're used to. If you love hard work and you enjoy spending a lot of time on your own, it can be a good place. Tao is kind and friendly but the language barrier can be problematic (mostly to understand tasks). I feel like I didn't learn a lot.
