Schlosshof Friedingen

From our beautiful courtyard you have a great view of Lake Constance. One of the awaited holiday destinations in Europe and the largest lake in Germany. You can also explore the Hegau volcanic mountains in your free time.

Here with us you can learn a lot about small-scale and diverse farming and you will be deployed in all areas of the farm.

On site, you will be integrated into our everyday life. In addition to the daily changing work, you will eat with us and do sports (if you want to). You will normally work with us every morning from Tuesday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. In the afternoon, you can explore the area, be creative in our workshop, help prepare the events or lazing around.

In the evenings and at weekends, we always have a fantastic atmosphere under our big farm tree, with other workawayers and our friends from the region. There is a lot of dancing!

Physical work in the garden and vineyard, as well as renovating the house, are part of our daily routine. It doesn't matter how much experience you already have or how much strength you have. You will work with us to build a project that focuses on sustainability and is not about business and making money.

Severin is a very generous host and fosters a rewarding volunteer experience.

The tasks varied between gardening or helping in the vineyard and were split up between shifts, so it never felt repetitive. The kitchen is always stocked with groceries in addition to the vegetables produced from the farm. Severin is very accommodating if you need anything specifically, but does a great job at providing more than enough food (and drinks!). Working, cooking, and hanging out with the other volunteers was so much fun, I would recommend this experience to anyone interested in gardening or winemaking!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the farm. I learned so much about gardening and wine making. Severin is a great host who is very kind and passionate about his work. I will always cherish our lunches under the walnut tree, such a great way to connect as well as push yourself in the kitchen to try making new dishes. I will miss our conversations amongst the veggies as well as our bike trips to the lake. What an amazing month!

Everything was amazing at the farm! I got to meet some great people and share unforgettable moments. Severin is super nice and always helpful. They were really flexible too. If you’re looking to have a good time surrounded by nature, I totally recommend it. Harvest days are the best you can eat as many carrots as you want while pulling them out of the ground!

I felt at home from the very first day I arrived at the farm. It’s the perfect place to explore an alternative lifestyle, where nature and ecology are at the heart of the community. During my stay, I learned the importance of healthy food and got to experiment with many recipes in the kitchen. Severin gave me the freedom to choose the activities I liked: I painted, gardened, cooked, and worked in the workshop. These experiences helped me grow creatively and gain confidence. The tasks were light, the schedule flexible, and I had plenty of free time. I will come back for sure :)

The experience had its challenges. The host was kind at first but later asked us to leave earlier due to a “farm event.” On the day we left, it was raining and we had to walk 15 minutes to the bus stop with all our bags, which got soaked. He didn’t offer help or reply. The food was a strict vegan diet with only vegetables and grains, no fruits or snacks. The work was hard at times, lifting heavy boxes with no breaks. The room was in poor condition and the internet didn’t work there. The host also didn’t update the dates on Worldpackers.
Don't forget your sunscreen.

I'm sorry that your stay didn't meet your expectations. But I'm wondering what your expectations were of spending four weeks on an organic farm. Physical and simple work is an essential part of growing vegetables and wine, especially since your English wasn't good enough to explain more complex tasks. I asked before your stay whether you felt confident communicating in English. It was very challenging for me, in addition to a full day of work, to explain almost all of your daily needs.
