Maharlikha permaculture

We live in a small village where life is simple, close to nature, and deeply rooted in tradition. Volunteers are welcome to join us in our daily activities and help us exchange knowledge about agriculture, climate, and integrated farming.

Here, you can experience a truly rural lifestyle—cooking with firewood, eating homegrown food, and living in harmony with nature. Volunteers can help in the garden, collect firewood, prepare traditional meals, and learn about permaculture and sustainable farming.

In addition to farm work, we also have a community program where volunteers can visit local schools to help teach English or play with children in kindergartens. This is a great way to connect with the local community, experience the village’s educational system, and bring joy to the children while also learning from them.

Our location is also perfect for nature lovers! We are 5 hours from Mount Sindoro and Mount Sumbing, and 4 hours from the beautiful Dieng Plateau, where you can witness breathtaking sunrises, ancient temples, and volcanic craters.

I am a farmer living in a rural area, growing my own food, cooking with a traditional kitchen, and embracing a sustainable lifestyle. We are creating a food forest using permaculture principles, and we welcome volunteers who are interested in learning and experiencing this way of life. You will stay in a simple village house with basic facilities, enjoy traditional Javanese food, and live in a peaceful environment surrounded by nature. If you love simplicity, slow living, and connecting with the land, this is the perfect place for you

Maharlikha is the best host you can expect. This was my first experience with the worldpackers and I must say that I am completely satisfied with everything. I spent a week around the village helping in daily tasks, learning how to cook indonesian food from the hands of housewives, learned about Maharlikha's food forest and permaculture project and teaching english to him as well as children through the village! If you want to immers yourself into real nature and the authentic local experience of Java, this is your volunteering job to take! You won't regret it!

My time with Maharlikha was great! He‘s an extremely nice and positive person who made conversation easy. He introduced me to so many local plants and vegetables and I learned a ton about traditional indonesian food. The activities were very diverse and even when it was raining we found ways to spend our time well. Visiting the local kindergartens and playing volleyball was great way of getting in touch with more local people.
I can recommend this opportunity to any volunteer looking for a truly authentic experience.

We had an incredibly fun time staying with Maharlikha (espacially while playing cards). To experience how he lives in harmony with nature. We both learned much about sustainability and permaculture. He showed us for example how to make coffe, fried bananas or Cassafaflour and so much more, it was very interesting and we learned so many new things. We felt totaly welcomed from the begining and became real friends :)

I had a truly wonderful week staying with Maharlikha! He's incredibly funny and embodies authentic Indonesian culture. Living in his village was an amazing experience; he generously shared so much about traditional food and local culture. I also had a fantastic time helping out on his farm, where I enjoyed an abundance of healthy, new foods. Maharlikha is genuinely a good person, showing great care for the elderly in his village, respect for his father, and kindness towards all volunteers. For an authentic taste of Indonesian culture, I highly recommend staying here!
