Finca La Quimera

Finca la Quimera is the perfect place to get inmersed in wild nature and the real rural life of Costa Rica, as well as a great place to explore and learn how to become more sustainable using much more efficently and ethically our natural resources while learnning about other cultures, yourself, living in comunity.

Hi! my name is Alba I´m originally from Spain, but I have spent a few years living in Costa Rica already. A few years ago I quit my previous job in a big company in my homecountry and came to Costa Rica with some savings decided to start a new way of life. Now I live in this beautiful and secluded spot between the mountains which is a 9Ha property farm situated in a valley sorrounded by secondary and primary forest and the beautiful river Jicotea. Here, I´ve started a sustainable permaculture Farm where now I live with my babygirl, my dogs, cat and chickens! I started this project with some workers that have through the years become close friends and still join us in our working hours some days in the week. Beeing sorrounded by their knowledge about country side living, building, gardenning has been one of the main sources of learnning for me and it still is for all of us. Untill now we have been focused in creating our veggie garden, constructing a spring water captation resevoir, a workshop building with a comunal área, common kitchen, and a couple of cabins more where to host volunteers, guests and other colaborators for the project. I live here sharing the space with groups of up to 6 volunteers at the time , that we can receive from Monday to Friday up untill 4pm . All volunteers share and rotate the tasks in an order that we all agree once a week , and are able to choose and agree which projects or tasks are more interested in beeing involved with. At Finca La Quimera the wellbeeing of the group and therefore communication is a priority.

I had an amazing time at la finca! I stayed 3 weeks, but I wish I stayed longer. Laura and Alba were perfect hosts and Laura led such fun and diverse activities. The day to day was very enjoyable with the perfect amount of time to yourself. I was able to learn so much and also reconnect with nature. We had a great group of people and even got to hang out with locals. It was such a privilege to experience this lifestyle. I highly recommend!

I had such a great experience on the finca. I learned so much about sustainability and I really value the time I had to reconnect with nature in such a remote place. I highly recommend this finca to anyone looking to spend time in nature or experience something new!

We really enjoyed our stay at the finca! The proximity with nature and the setting of the farm offer a peaceful and serene experience.

We appreciated the diversity of the tasks as well as working with different volunteers from all around the world. Thank you Kylie, Elodie, Giuseppe, Laura and Dona for making our stay unforgettable!

This volunteer program has also allowed us to see Costa Rica in a more authentic way, to meet locals and to enjoy the pura vida lifestyle.

If you decide to go to this volunteering program, be prepared to eat a lot of bananas (don’t worry there are good)!

Tom and I spent a beautiful two weeks learning lots of new skills - planting, cooking, harvesting & fixing things around the farm.

The location was stunning - rolling hills and lush greenery. We saw so much amazing Costa Rican wildlife!

Living simply and sustainably was powerful! And this is an amazing project!

We met such wonderful people and will cherish our time of the farm! Thank you!

I absolutely loved my time at Finca la Quimera - it was way too short!! Alba is an incredible woman who created a beautiful place in the literal middle of nowhere;)) I felt heartedly welcomed the minute I entered the farm. It’s a wonderful place in nature, not as easily accessible though. During the week it is hard to truly leave the farm at all but on the weekends you can make some trips to explore more of Costa Rica. The work is very manageable and Alba and Laura are both extremely knowledgeable when it comes to eco-farming and sustainability. I learned a lot from them!!
