Big Hero community language center

Be a part of our project!! We do support volunteers with 3-month business visas if you expect to stay in the country in the long -term ( currently the maximum time for a tourist visa is only 1 month)

You will not only have a chance to meaningfully contribute to improving local lives but also meet many friendly people, truly explore Vietnamese culture, and enjoy traditional food. Some of your students might even take you around the city in a way that you could only experience with the locals. Don't be a tourist. Be a traveler. Come and experience a place off the beaten track. This life does not disappoint.

We are 30 minutes from the local beach and 1.5 hours from Cat Ba island which is the most beautiful island in the North of Vietnam

Volunteers have 2 days off ( Sunday and Mondy) but lessons usually take place in Tuesday evening so you can sorta have 3 days to travel around with volunteers which can be a fantastic experience

Working hours are usually from 6 pm to 9 pm so you will have a lot of free time to discover the local area. We are highly sporty people who enjoy going to the gym, and playing badminton, ping-pong, and football, so if you love playing sports, this is an ideal place for you <3

Our support
- Vietnamese lesson
- Cooking lesson
- Motorbikes or scooters are available for use to get around at no charge
- Beautiful accommodation in a safe and civilized residential area
- Football match with local teams

At Big Hero, you are treated as part of a family. After classes, volunteers often hang out and have fun with local staff and students at Bia Hoi

Unforgettable experience, filled with meaningful interactions with both the local Viet community and volunteers. Teaching English and socializing with local students and teachers were the def highlight. Scooters at our disposal, which made exploring the city an absolute joy. Although meals were provided, I often opted to eat out due to concerns over the food's quality and the kitchen's hygiene. Lack of maintenance and mold was noticeable in the shared areas and sleeping room. Kitchen was flooded every time it was raining. Recommending it for immersing into the Viet culture and incredible ppl

I really liked my stay at the Big Hero 6 especially because of the people I met there. The work is easy and you work about 3 hours a day in which you usually just talk to students which is fun. The accommodation itself is not the best. The room is with 10 people really packed and there is only one bathroom where the shower has some problems. But the worst part was the kitchen. It was very dirty, often flooded and the food that was cooked for us often just stood there for multiple hours. Would recommend it but probably not for solo travelers because of a lack of things to do in the city.

Volunteering at the Big Hero Language Center was a beautiful experience. My friend and I loved the evening classes, especially talking to the students and learning about their experiences. We got many recommendations from the students as well as the Vietnamese teachers that made our time even more enjoyable. We even had the opportunity to learn how to drive a motorbike which was absolutely amazing. You will definitely befriend the other volunteers, seeing as we all sleep in the same room and eat the meals together. Be prepared to sustain yourself though because the meals aren’t reliable.

I truly had such a great time connecting with other volunteers and the Vietnamese people. I enjoyed the English classes and learning more about the Vietnamese culture.
There were scooters provided for us which was great to explore the city. Aswell lunch and dinner was cooked for us, which was nice, but we often went out for food after classes again.
The only thing I had to get used to was the accommodation conditions: 10 of us slept in a quite small room, so we basically had not much space to leave our bags. Aswell the bathroom wasn’t t the cleanest (there was mold).
But it was so cool anyw.

The volunteering and speaking to the students was really enjoyable, they are so eager to learn! I really enjoyed this. The other volunteers and staff living in the apartment were amazing and I loved spending time with them. However I never formally met the host/owner, which I think is necessary for volunteers to understand the project. The facilities were awful, complete lack of care for the apartment, homestay and the building where the children learn. Food left out all day, often with flies and mould in the room which also has a lack of airflow and cramped. Shower flooded daily.
