I volunteered here for a short time and had both positive and negative experiences. Meals were generous with plenty of variety, the other volunteers were kind and the quiet location with private rooms, bicycles, beautiful area and even the cats made it enjoyable. Brenda was warm, open and supportive and the daily tasks were light and manageable. Unfortunately, interactions with Sean felt disrespectful sometimes; when I shared feedback, he denied ever hearing such concerns, although others had raised them before (e.g. on Worldpackers or at the Lodge). This led me to leave earlier than planned.

Island is beautiful, food is provided, Brenda the manager is amazing and the other volunteers were so friendly. I could not have asked for a better group. The hours in 1 go were long, compared to what I am used to, but the chef-size kitchen, extra shifts/benefits, and staff made it worth it. Some of the guests were lovely. Volunteering here is not for the easily offended. You need to have a thick skin. It's an even exchange and I think if the owner learns to treat vols with more kindness and patience, the experience will be even better. He’s a good man, staff deserve kindness & respect too.

Thank you Jan for your assistance from the 10/8 until the 5/9 . I am sorry that we were unable to extend your stay as you requested!. We do respect the agreed hours!. We do facilitate some remote working - however you pushed it over the limit - up at 2.a.m drinking coffee ... We did have an issue this year with some volunteers working a different time zone remotely. This has proved difficult for management. Clear thinking and focus is required for breakfast and sleep is required for this!.

I stayed for a month and mainly worked with 1-3 other volunteers and the manager, Brenda.

PROS: Brenda went above and beyond to create a welcoming environment, even doing extra work to ensure we had the best possible experience; Sean or Brenda drove us to town and elsewhere when possible; Shifts ended at 12:30pm or 3:00pm, so plenty of free time; Was given full access to the kitchen and all the food, could put in requests for ingredients; Flexible schedule.

CONS: Most shops/cafes (except for pubs) close around 4:00/5:00pm; Sean was at times unclear with his expectations and instructions.

The lodge was a great experience with great people! I'm grateful for the friendships I made with the other volunteers, and especially for the manager Brenda, who is so genuine and supportive. We didn't work with the host himself much, which made communication a little unclear sometimes, but he made sure the experience was as agreed on, with our hours respected and the work straightforward. I really enjoyed the ease of exploring the whole island with the bikes at the lodge, giving me a comfortable balance of work and personal time. Seán and Brenda, thank you for everything!

As I write this review, I’m SO upset to be leaving Aran Walkers Lodge. It truly felt like a home away from home and its own little oasis on Inishmore. Sean is a very kind host who always made sure the volunteers had everything they needed. And I can’t say enough that will encapsulate how amazing the manager, Brenda, is. She is so funny, caring, and supportive and meeting her was one of the best parts of this experience. This experience let me relax in the beautiful Irish countryside, meet new people and experience new things. I would highly recommend this position to anyone!
