Dan Hostel
Dan Hostel is located 2 minutes away from Exit 1 of Ximending Subway Station. The transportation is convenient. We are a single-family building. The interior is designed in industrial style. The whole building has bunk beds. There are many buses here. You can reach Jiufen with one bus. 1- 2 stops to Taipei Main Station.
The manager does not speak English, but is happy to share Chinese learning. Most of the counter staff can speak English and can talk to you. We welcome little helpers. We like to make friends and share the big and small things in life.

I had a great time at Dan Hostel. The place is nice and the work is not difficult.
I had a lot of time to hang out and know more about the life in Taipei.
Special thank's to May, Ellie and Lyn who helped making the hostel a nice place to live in and to Ash, Aurora and all the volunteers for those many moments I will not forget 😊
I recommend for those seeking to have time to discover Taipei, the location is also very convenient!

The location is pretty good, and the work is easy—especially on weekdays. What stood out most were the people, both the fellow volunteers and the staff at the hostel. Ash, Aurora, and Ellie in particular were such sweethearts.
One thing worth mentioning is that there is no “real” cleaning staff; the volunteers and receptionists, who occasionally help out, are the only cleaners. This means some areas don’t get cleaned regularly and can feel a little dirty.
Otherwise, the work is straightforward and easy to do, and I still recommend coming here.

Volunteering at Dan hostel was such a good experience. It's very close to transport, food and all the fun spots, so exploring the city was super easy. The team was friendly, organised and made everyone feel welcome. The work was fair and chill, leaving plenty of free time. We even got home-cooked meals, which made the experience feel even more special. I also got great recommendations for places to eat and visit, including some hidden local gems. We had several outings with all the volunteers, and Ash (receptionist) was very kind to show us around and translate at the night markets and arcade.

The tasks were pretty easy and consistent. On weekdays work only took me about 1,5 hours and on weekends around 3 hours. The facilities were ok, there wasn't much of a kitchen and the wifi worked really poorly in the womens floor. Overall it was still a very good experience. The location is amazing and all the regular staff were really nice and welcoming!

The overall experience was good. The work is easy and on most days you can finish early.
However, a few downsides. The host asks for 35$ deposit and because there often is a micromanaging atmosphere, you feel like you could loose this money easily. Also if you somehow decide to leave earlier.
Because the work is so light, you have plenty of free time but you might find yourself getting bored quick.
Some flexibility in the overall management would greatly improve this.
