My two weeks at Art Garden Madi were an incredible experience. I joined the painting school project and had the opportunity to meet many local people, learn how to make clay, and even participate in a local wedding. Madi, the host, is a truly special person—he’s funny, helpful, and made me feel so welcome. I left with many new friends and wonderful memories, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique and immersive art experience.

I had a wonderful time at Art Garden Madi! Madi truly offers a beautiful experience in the jungle. He took us to many places to get in touch with the local culture. Next to that he and the place inspired me to work on a bigger art piece that was way out of my comfort zone. I learned a lot during my stay here, about myself and about the way of living in Ulu Dong (and Malaysia). Next to that, I met some wonderful fellow volunteers during my stay with who I had amazing great time.

What I will never forget is her skill in creating the historic dining table, which has now become a proud masterpiece at ArtGardenMadi — and not only that, it has also become a memorable first for all the villagers. My experience was mixed. I truly appreciated the cultural exchange and the opportunity to celebrate Hari Raya with Madi and his friends. However, at times it was quite tiring and not exactly what I expected in terms of learning new things. It often felt like we were just following Madi wherever he wanted to go, without being informed in advance, and the plans changed frequently.

The jungle is absolutely amazing, and the place definitely has soul. Transportation is very limited. Be prepare for mosquitos, and check you network as connection is limited.
