Also, La Guajira Peninsula is an easy to reach destination around Santa Marta. Several tour companies can arrange trips to Cabo de la Vela and La Guajira Peninsula. These region is amazing to relax by the dunes and calm beaches.

The nightlife in Santa Marta is not so different from other colombian cities. A good place to dance and a have a few drinks is Oh la la La Puerta. It’s a bar with good music, fair prices and sometimes a band for local music. Besides discovering the nightlife and exploring local clubs, Santa Marta’s surroundings are also nice to visit. You can take a day-trip to Taganga, a city full of dive shops and diving schools. Parque Nacional Tayrona stands around 1-hour from Taganga. It’s reachable by speedboat, bus or car. The boat ride costs around 40,000 pesos ($22).
