Hands of Empowerment Uganda runs a dynamic volunteer program designed to engage individuals passionate about community service, health equity, and sustainable development. Our program offers both local and international volunteers the opportunity to work directly with underserved communities across Uganda, supporting various initiatives in healthcare, education, women’s empowerment, and youth development.
Volunteers are carefully matched to projects based on their skills, interests, and the current needs of the community. After a detailed orientation and cultural briefing, volunteers work alongside our staff and community leaders to deliver impactful services. Activities may include health outreach, assisting in orthopedic clinics, mentoring youth, teaching basic literacy, or supporting vocational training for women.
The program runs throughout the year, with flexible durations ranging from two weeks to six months. Accommodation, meals, and local transport are arranged to ensure a safe and comfortable stay. In addition to their core duties, volunteers are encouraged to engage in cultural exchange, participate in community events, and explore Uganda’s rich heritage.
Hands of Empowerment Uganda provides ongoing support and mentorship to volunteers, ensuring their experience is not only meaningful but also contributes to long-term community empowerment and sustainable development goals.

Daily Teaching Activities & Shifts for a Position with Hands of Empowerment Uganda
General Work Schedule
Days: Monday to Friday (occasionally weekends for outreach events or special workshops)

Afternoon Shift: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Morning Shift (8:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
1. Planning & Preparation (8:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
Review daily lesson plans and teaching aids
Set up learning materials and teaching equipment
Hold brief staff coordination meetings
Prepare classrooms or community venues for the day’s session
2. Core Teaching Sessions (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
Deliver structured lessons on selected topics such as:
Basic literacy & numeracy
Reproductive health education
Entrepreneurship and small business skills
Financial literacy (e.g., savings, budgeting)
Vocational training (e.g., tailoring, crafts, soap making, hairdressing)
Use interactive methods: role plays, group discussions, practical demonstrations
Monitor learner participation and adapt content for different skill levels
3. Group Reflection & Feedback (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)
Allow learners to reflect on the day’s session
Facilitate feedback and Q&A
Record attendance and session evaluations

Additional Rules and Expectations for Hands of Empowerment Uganda
1. Code of Conduct
All members, staff, and volunteers must uphold the highest standards of professionalism, honesty, and integrity.
Discrimination or harassment of any form (based on gender, race, disability, religion, or background) is strictly prohibited.
Confidentiality must be maintained regarding all organizational and beneficiary information.
2. Attendance and Participation
Regular attendance is mandatory for scheduled meetings, training, and community events unless prior notice is given.
Members are expected to actively participate in organizational activities and contribute constructively.
3. Financial Accountability
Misuse or misappropriation of funds will result in immediate disciplinary action and possible legal consequences.
All financial transactions must be properly documented and reported to the relevant oversight bodies.
Fundraising activities must be authorized and transparently accounted for.
4. Volunteer and Staff Conduct
Volunteers and staff must wear identification badges during official duties.
Staff must report to work punctually and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
Alcohol, drug abuse, or coming to work under the influence is grounds for dismissal.
5. Respect for the Community
All activities must respect the dignity, culture, and rights of the communities we serve.

6. Use of Resources
Organizational resources (vehicles, equipment, supplies) are to be used only for official work.
Any damage or misuse must be reported immediately and may require restitution.
