The experience I had at Zoo Refugio the shelter was great. Made a lot of new friends and the staff is really kind and funny. Be prepared to speak a lot of Spanish though because the zookeepers doesn't know a lot of English. But communication works out great in the end as Fanny, the host, knows English very well and will care for all your needs. Truly recommend it!

I had a great time at the shelter, the hosts were very welcoming and the other volunteers were so nice. We had a house to ourselves about a 5 min walk away, and all meals were provided. The work was pretty easy, cutting fruit, feeding and cleaning. The staff were very nice and helped you at all times. The hours were respected and you have a good amount of time off to explore the area.

Volunteering at the zoo refuge in Ecuador was an incredible experience. The hosts were very supportive, providing everything we needed. Fanny and her son were especially helpful, offering us great assistance. Working at the zoo refuge was amazing. The tasks were challenging but manageable, and anyone with a love for wildlife would find it rewarding. Ecuador and the shelter are perfect for wildlife enthusiasts. Additionally, they offered tours of the jungle and provided orientation for those of us who wanted to explore on our own.

Volunteering at the shelter was super fun. You're really thrown into the day-to-day activities of working in a zoo, like preparing food, cleaning cages and feeding the animals. However, I wish the tasks were more organized and better communicated. You're kind of following the zookeeper around. There is no introduction, and it's sometimes hard to know what to do. That being said, I loved living at the volunteer house and being so close to animals. The host also took us to a river and chocolate farm, which I loved. Would recommend!
