I had a great time at Finca De La Rey, I'm happy that I was able to support their mission of reforesting formerly cattle area. They need more help from volunteers, who are willing to get their hands dirty and their bodies sweaty. I've drilled holes and planted trees, I've feeded the chickens and collected their eggs. And I helped with electrical and building construction. You will get in close contact to nature, if you are peaky, then better look for another Volunteer job. I got a satisfactory accomodation, three delicious meals a day, a lot of new knowledge and nice people around me.

Thanks to Gerda, Kobus and Deon I learned a lot about tropical trees, wild animals and what it is like to live as a family of expats in Panama. The cakes Gerda makes are heavenly, I had a good time helping in the kitchen but mostly I enjoyed planting trees, cutting grass and wacking burned trees with a machete. In the afternoons I found excellent spots to read my book. My advice to other volunteers is to prepare for all kinds of beasts and bugs and to eat a lot of cake. This place is great for people who love and respect nature!

Overall, we enjoyed our experience at the Jungle Cabin. We learned a lot about land reforestation and the importance of preserving indigenous wildlife and ecology. The work we did was physically demanding but doable. It is important to bring clothes that protect you from the sun and that you are willing to get dirty. They respect the work hours. The beach is about an 1 hour walk away, sometimes you can hitch a ride from the locals who are very welcoming. Gerda's food and desserts were amazing! She accommodated to a gluten allergy, which is very appreciated! We would recommend to nature lovers.

A first week of sharing and exchange where I learned a lot about construction, electricity. A more mixed second week. Often alone for activities. And so I think it's a place where you have to be with several volunteers. Sometimes I ate alone. Too bad after a physical and intense work I was hoping to exchange. Same for work. And when I was taught something I had to reproduce and watch out for mistakes. I feel like they need workers more than volunteers. At the end, the place is magnificent and what they do for nature is worth stopping for a few days.

Nasseira was an excellent volunteer on our project. She was the only volunteer for the two weeks that she spend on the project. Her stay was at a time when all three of our team members had medical issues (Influensa)and had to keep our distance.
Nasseira worked her hours and was free to spend her time to her liking. Our shcedule as hosts is different - on some days we work untill after 22h00 when our clients needed support, and that caused us to only enjoy our dinners once we returned home.
We put a lot of effort into giving each volunteer the opportunity to learn new skills, but we also expect the volunteers to stay connected to the task in hand, especially while planting tree seedlings - seedlings take months to grow and prepare before they are transplanted, but can be destroyed in seconds if not handled correctly.
