I had a wonderful experience. I must say that I was feeling unconfortable during the first few days, due to the many cameras everywhere, I cannot stand being constantly underwatch and also for breakfast we just had jam and a slice of bread, which is not great when you can't eat bread. But despite that I had an amazing stay, all the volunteers and staff are lovely, the tasks are quite easy, we finish at 1pm max so you have the whole afternoon to enjoy the city, and thanks to the hotel I volunteered in a matsuri, which is quite unique, I feel grateful for every moment I had at this place 🫶 thks

Staying at the hostel was lovely! Everybody at the hostel made me feel very welcome, the work was very easy, and the working hours were reasonable. The tasks of the volunteering work included making the guest beds and cleaning the common areas, showers, and toilets. Meals were always freshly cooked for lunch and dinner, thank you Ratree! All in all, I would definitely recommend staying in Takayama if you enjoy a quiet city and nature. Thank you to the whole the hostel team for giving me this opportunity!!

My experience at this Worldpacker was great! From the start, the team made me feel right at home; special shoutout to Ryutaro and Luke for their kindness and openness. But honestly, everyone brought their unique touch, creating an amazing group atmosphere. The work was simple and fair, allowing plenty of time to explore Takayama and enjoy personal time. Also; since this is a Smart IT Hostel, there are quite a few cameras, but you get used to it. Overall, I'm truly grateful for this experience and the staff's support. Their kindness and generosity made my stay even more special!

The hostel has a large, friendly team, including many Worldpackers. The work is limited to cleaning only and is manageable, though you may sometimes be assigned to clean one of the 5 branches alone. Training was smooth and supportive. The staff apartment is cozy, with clean, comfy beds! Lunch and dinner are provided daily, but breakfast isn't consistent. The hostel's location in Takayama is great! Flexibility is key, and volunteers should be aware of the large amount of surveillance cameras in every building.

Takayama was so much fun, and great part of that was due to the other volunteers and staff with whom I shared the experience. The work is as agreed and more than reasonable. The food provided is very good and they considered allergies and diets. I personally had a good time with everyone but I knew other colleagues had a harder time with the owners and other bosses. Sometimes the communication with the local staff is difficult due to the language barrier, but you can always count on the managers who speak English to help you.

My experience was positive: the staff (especially the managers) were very kind, the work was easy, the food was great, and the location is beautiful. On the downside, there's little chance to practice Japanese, as you often work alone or with other volunteers. I also witnessed a serious situation involving a senior staff member and a volunteer, which wasn't handled well. That said, I'm grateful for how I was treated and believe the team works hard and deserves the best. I recommend the experience unless your main goal is to practice Japanese.

My experience at the hostel was good; the volunteers and staff make you feel comfortable. The tasks are simple, and if you have any questions, both the staff and volunteers are willing to help you. The work schedule allows you to explore Takayama. I give it a 4 out of 5 because the area for volunteers was newly set up and had some pending details, which have probably already been or will soon be fixed. Overall, it was a great experience.

The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the onboarding program was well-structured, making it very clear what was expected of volunteers. The ryokan is surrounded by stunning nature, and the town itself is beautiful and full of charm. I had a great time and was able to make a lot of amazing friends! The only downsides were the large number of cameras, which felt a bit much, and the importance of knowing Japanese customs—otherwise, you might get scolded. But overall, a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Japanese culture!

Volunteering at the hostel was a good experience! The work was simple: cleaning rooms, bathrooms, and common areas. The best part was the people, I made amazing friends, and spending time with other volunteers made everything more enjoyable. However, the accommodation could have been better. It was very cold, I had no Wi-Fi for half my stay, and ongoing renovations made it hard to rest on my days off. Also, I wish the local staff had been friendlier. Despite these issues, I'm grateful for the friendships I made and the overall experience.

Great first WP experience! I got along well with several staff members. Ryutaro was especially considerate, going out of his way to help us with an unexpected situation that occurred after our stay. It was very much appreciated. The work hours were reasonable, and the tasks were clear and manageable, allowing for a good balance. The food was delicious, though we had to ask a few times for breakfast. The hostel follows a smart concept with several cameras, which may feel intimidating at first, but the management was open to discussing it and valued our feedback. Thank you, Takayama! 😊
