I had a great time at Wilkathethe lodge. Nelson and his family treated me like one of their own and I had lots of time to explore the surrounding mountains and to go on day trips in the area. Great opportunity to practice Spanish, learn more about an interesting culture and to spend time outdoors. Highly recommend.

We had a fab week stay! The family made us feel so welcome, giving us time to explore the local area and traditions, being patient with our beginner Spanish and catering for us as vegetarians. Luckily for us, it was carnival, so we assisted with the family's preparations and were brought along to celebrations held by their friends/family. We learnt so much about their culture and felt welcomed by the community. We were always encouraged to rest after working and liked that the sleeping/resting space was separate from the family house which gave us privacy. ¡Muchisimo gracias!

My experience at the lodgewas good. Its a local immersion in the Peruvian life. You will eat simple peruvian dishes(mostly soups and sometimes for all meals the same) but can learn alot about the culture. The hours are really respected and you can build your schedule together with Nelson which is great. In your freetime you can go on nice hikes and explore the beautiful surroundings. Be assure that the project is on 3400m so you could have some problems with the altitude. The father is really sweet and open to explain you alot about the history of Peru. Sometimes you can feel surveillanced

There were some communication issues and different expectations about the volunteering tasks from various family members, which caused some confusion and a bit of disorganization. However, overall it was a good experience—the host and his family were friendly and attentive. They welcomed me into their family circle, took care of me, offered their company to visit the mountains, and generously shared their life stories and culture.

Nuestra experiencia de voluntariado en la comunidadfue maravillosa. La familia Yauri nos recibió con calidez y nos hizo sentir como parte de su hogar. Aprendimos sobre sus costumbres y tradiciones mientras colaborábamos en ellas. Fue una estancia enriquecedora, llena de respeto y aprendizaje. I had a really great time staying with Nelson and his family. The area is beautiful and there are good hiking and camping opportunities in the mountains. I got to practice my spanish and hear a lot about the lives and traditions of the people. Its a place to enjoy the mountains and the culture of the andian people. Regarding work and tasks it's very flexible and there are options of both relaxing and working as it is mostly up to you how you spend your stay.

If you want to immerse yourself with a Quechua family for a week in the Andes, I recommend this experience. The family was generous with their knowledge and patient with my questions. Be prepared for rustic living conditions and in return you can more deeply appreciate the history and customs of the region. Work included groundskeeping at the neighboring ruins, gathering wood for the stove, and feeding the pigs. In your free afternoons or days off there is amazing hiking right in your backyard. My Spanish improved and I got to meet other amazing volunteers from all over the world.

Quedarse con Nelson y su familia fue una experiencia linda! Aprendí sobre su cultura y la vida en el campo. Me gustó mucho el trabajo de cosecha de papas y la libertad que tuve para conocer la naturaleza del área. La familia fue muy amable y siempre había mucha comida rica :) ¡Le recomendaría esta experiencia a cualquier persona que quiere conocer la realidad más cercana y sincera del campo con gente amable y mucha flexibilidad del tiempo!
