The experience

We operate a small 30-bed hostel in Hakuba during the winter season and are looking for friendly helpers to support cleaning, check-ins, and occasional snow shoveling. Training is provided, and you will work closely with our on-site team. Helpers work about 4–6 hours a day and stay in shared staff accommodation. A Working Holiday Visa is required. What you offer

30 hours of help per week

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Housekeeping: Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.

Reception: Help with check-ins, check-outs and guest assistance.


What you get

2 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Team Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Discounts on Accommodation: Get discounts for your stay in other hostels.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely


Requirements

Intermediate Japanese or Fluent English

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

Join our small 30-bed hostel in Hakuba for the winter season and help with cleaning, check-ins, and occasional snow shoveling. We provide full training and a friendly, international environment. Helpers work about 4–6 hours a day and stay in shared staff accommodation. A Working Holiday Visa is required. Enjoy mountain life, meet travelers from around the world, and experience Hakuba’s winter culture!


Activities & Shift

Cleaning rooms and common areas
• Making beds and handling linens
• Assisting with guest check-ins (mainly 4pm–8pm)
• Light housekeeping and organizing
• Answering basic guest questions
• Occasional snow shoveling on heavy snow days
• Reporting issues to staff

Helpers work around 4–6 hours per day, 5–6 days a week.
Shifts are flexible and will be discussed and arranged upon your arrival, depending on bookings, weather, and team needs.
Tasks may include morning cleaning, evening check-ins, or other support as needed. Snow days may require short extra help.


Rules

This position is not for our Kanazawa hostels, but for the Hakuba hostel.
Meals are self-catered, and we only provide the basic staples: rice, bread, and pasta.
We will provide regular transportation for grocery shopping.
