Program Details

Join a loving Kenyan family and experience authentic rural life while making a real difference! Our program combines sustainable farming, poultry keeping, and women’s empowerment—offering volunteers a unique chance to learn, share, and grow together with our community.

You’ll spend your days contributing to our family garden—planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting fresh vegetables that provide food for the household and act as a learning model for local families. The garden is our pride and a place of connection, where we teach sustainable farming methods and demonstrate how families can grow nutritious food using local resources.

Alongside garden activities, volunteers help care for our poultry and ornamental birds such as white and dotted guinea fowl. Tasks include feeding, cleaning cages, refilling drinkers, and ensuring the birds have fresh water every day. You’ll also support vaccination routines and learn basic poultry management—a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in small-scale farming.

Beyond the farm, you’ll engage with inspiring HIV-positive women in our sewing and entrepreneurship cooperative. Here, you can assist in fabric cutting, tailoring, product design, and help train women in financial literacy, bookkeeping, marketing, and basic computer skills. This part of the program brings powerful social impact, helping women rebuild confidence and independence while fighting stigma.

We also welcome creative volunteers with experience in digital media or communications to help us share our story with the world! You can assist with photography, creating content for Facebook and Instagram, and keeping our social media active with weekly posts that celebrate the women’s achievements and the beauty of village life.

Activities & Shift

Each day at the farm offers a blend of hands-on agricultural activities, learning, and cultural connection. The program runs five days a week with about four to five hours of activities per day, allowing volunteers enough time to rest or explore the surrounding area during weekends. Activities are flexible depending on weather, the season, and the needs of the farm or women’s project. Mornings usually begin with caring for the poultry. Volunteers help to feed chickens, guinea fowls, and other birds, refill and clean their drinkers, and sweep the cages to maintain good hygiene. This also includes collecting eggs and ensuring that the birds have access to clean water at all times. From there, attention shifts to the family garden, where you may water plants, remove weeds, plant new seeds, transplant vegetables, or harvest crops depending on the season. Volunteers are also introduced to sustainable farming practices such as composting and using animal manure to enrich the soil naturally.

In the afternoons, the activities becomes more social and interactive. Volunteers join women in the tailoring cooperative who are living positively with HIV. You may assist with cutting fabrics, stitching, embroidery, or helping to design new products. Those with skills in business management, bookkeeping, marketing, or basic computer knowledge can share these with the women through short training sessions. These sessions help them manage their sewing enterprises better and build their confidence.

Some volunteers also can take part in creating social media content to showcase our community’s work. This may involve taking photos or short videos, writing captions, or helping to schedule posts that highlight the progress of the women and activities on the farm.

Rules

We expect all volunteers to approach their stay with respect, openness, and a willingness to learn from our way of life. This is a family environment, and we value kindness, teamwork, and cultural sensitivity. Volunteers are expected to participate actively in daily tasks, follow the work schedule agreed upon, and communicate in advance if they need time off or changes in routine.

Since this is a family home and community space, everyone is expected to keep shared areas clean and tidy, including the kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor spaces. Respect for local customs and traditions is important, and modest dressing is appreciated when around the village and during community activities.

Volunteers should be responsible with farm tools and equipment, return them after use, and care for animals gently and patiently. We encourage healthy relationships among volunteers, family members, and community participants—no discrimination, harassment, or offensive language is tolerated. Alcohol consumption should be moderate, and smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor areas.

Above all, volunteers are expected to come with an open heart, ready to share skills, embrace new experiences, and live simply alongside the family and community. Flexibility and a positive attitude will make your stay more enjoyable and meaningful for everyone.
