The experience

At Garden Library Uganda, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn and dream big. Join us in Bugonga fishing community, Entebbe, to teach English and inspire young learners through reading, storytelling, and creative activities. Share your skills, connect with the community, and help us grow a culture of learning and hope by the lakeside


What you offer

4 hours of help per day

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

Additional fee required

Amount: € 7 Per day

Fee pays for: Benefits for travelers

Description: Volunteers are kindly asked to contribute 7 euros per day, which helps cover the cost of three local meals breakfast, lunch, and supper. Meals are freshly prepared and give you a true taste of Ugandan culture. You’ll enjoy dishes like matooke (plantain), rice, groundnuts, fish, beans, potatoes, cassava, Rolex (chapati and eggs), and a variety of fresh local fruits. We keep meals simple, healthy, and shared with love .


What you get

3 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely


Requirements

Intermediate English or Fluent English

Between 18 and 80 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers


What's not included

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa


Program Details

Activities & Shift

Daily Activities Checklist – English Teacher at Garden Library Uganda

10:00 AM – 11:00 AM | Library Setup

Arrive at the library

Prepare materials, organize books, and set up for the day’s sessions

11:20 AM – 1:00 PM | Morning Reading Session

Lead reading activities with children

Teach English through storytelling, games, and interactive exercises

Support children individually if needed

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM | Lunch Break

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM | Afternoon Reading Session

Continue English lessons and creative learning activities

Engage children in writing, arts, or small group projects

Track progress and encourage participation


Rules

Volunteers are expected to work in line with Garden Library objectives of promoting education, a strong reading culture, and digital skills. Any activity representing our organization should be done in conformity with official guidance. We encourage volunteers to respect our values, local culture, and community life. While here, you’ll experience the simplicity of real African living using local means, sharing local food, and adapting to our way of life. Please come with an open mind and heart, not expecting a 100% Western lifestyle in Uganda
