The experience
Join the Soweto Youth Initiative (SYI) and make a lasting impact by helping children in our community develop confidence, curiosity, and creativity. As a Teaching & Childcare Volunteer, you’ll assist local teachers in the classroom, organize engaging learning activities, and support kids with homework and reading.
You’ll also help with creative lessons like drawing, singing, or storytelling — giving children the joy of learning in a safespace.
What you offer

Shared Dorm:
You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.
Breakfast:
You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.
Pick Up:
We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.
Language lessons:
Take free language classes at our place.
Certificate:
Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.
Basic Internet Access:
Basic speed internet for you to work remotely
Dedicated Workspace:
Specific space for you to work remotely
Requirements
Beginner English or Beginner English
Between 20 and 50 years old
Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers
Be from outside Kenya

Activities & Shift
Your main activities
Assist teachers with daily classroom lessons (English, Math, Science, etc.)
Organize games, creative learning, and reading sessions
Support the feeding program on weekends (optional but rewarding!)
Encourage positive behavior, kindness, and teamwork among kids
Help plan special events like art days, cultural exchange, or talent shows
