🐎 Help Us Care for Rescue Horses in Beautiful Bear Valley
The experience
Our project is one of Canada’s largest horse rescues. We’ve dedicated our lives to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses that were neglected, abandoned, or slaughter-bound. When needed, we also provide a long-term sanctuary where they can live safely and peacefully💕
We’ve been operating for over 20 years and, in the last 8 years, have welcomed many amazing international volunteers who’ve become a very important part of our daily life🌎

Program Details
We are located one hour north of Calgary, in a beautiful rural setting called Bear Valley. It’s an ideal place for those wishing to disconnect from the fast pace of city life and immerse themselves in nature — we have lots of peace and quiet!
It’s important for volunteers to understand that we are in a remote area with no public transportation. You should be comfortable spending your free time with horses or enjoying quiet activities such as reading, journaling, hiking, wildlife watching, or simply relaxing and appreciating the beauty of the place we call home 🌄.
We care for over 150 horses, as well as cows, chickens, goats, and many rescue cats and dogs that love extra attention and cuddles 🐮🐔🐐🐕🐈.
In exchange for accommodation, you’ll help us care for our resident horses and other animals. We provide shared housing in an apartment that has one bedroom with a single bed and bunk beds, plus a separate loft with a queen mattress. The apartment includes a full kitchen with dining area, bathroom, and a cozy sitting room with a TV and DVDs
Activities & Shift
We’re currently looking for motivated and positive volunteers all year round. Caring for over 150 horses and other rescued animals can be quite demanding, so we truly appreciate having a few extra helping hands 🤝.
The help can be physically demanding, so being fit and used to working outdoors in all kinds of weather is important 🌦️. We prefer volunteers with some large animal experience, but what’s truly essential is love, patience, and respect for all animals.
Many of our residents have had a difficult past, and we don’t tolerate any negative behavior toward them. Since horses are large and powerful animals, being comfortable around them and having common sense are both essential.
🚫 Please note: This is not a riding facility.
Volunteers help with:
-Feeding and watering animals twice daily
-Assisting with medications
-Helping during visits from farriers and veterinarians
-Cleaning paddocks and enclosures
