The experience
Come share your time and energy with local kids through free after-school classes for children from low-income families. You’ll help with English lessons, homework, reading, games, and creative activities that make learning fun and meaningful. You’ll stay in safe, clean housing near the project sites, enjoy home-cooked Sri Lankan meals, and have opportunities for cultural immersion and community connection.
What you offer

Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Description:
Volunteers contribute 15 US per day to cover accommodation, meals, and transport to project placements.
What you get

Private Room:
You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.
Shared Dorm:
You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.
Breakfast:
You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.
Lunch:
You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.
Dinner:
You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.
Basic Internet Access:
Basic speed internet for you to work remotely

Program Details
This project offers free after-school classes for children in rural and estate communities whose families can’t afford private education. Many parents are daily wage earners with limited schooling, so the project creates a safe, supportive space where kids can learn, grow, and build confidence. Classes focus on English, reading, writing, creativity, and life skills, with volunteers and teachers making learning fun and inclusive.

Activities & Shift
Daily activities include:
-Assisting local educators in English language learning, including speaking, reading, and writing.
-Supporting children with homework and creative learning activities.
-Helping organize educational games and life skills sessions that make learning enjoyable and interactive.
-Creating a safe, patient, and encouraging atmosphere where children can grow in confidence.
Volunteers usually work 5 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with weekends free for rest or local exploration. Activities are hands-on and may vary depending on community needs and ongoing projects.
Rules
Be respectful, open-minded, and adaptable.
Attend orientation sessions and daily check-ins with the Serenity Lanka team.
Avoid alcohol or drug use during working hours or at project locations.
Dress modestly and appropriately for community settings.
Notify coordinators in advance if you are unable to attend a shift or activity.
