The experience

Be part of a sustainable development project in the Inner Ionian Islands of Greece! Volunteers collaborate in environmental conservation, eco-farming, and marine and terrestrial monitoring at the Kalamos Island Biological Field Station. A unique opportunity to learn, contribute, and live close to nature while supporting real impact.


What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Animal Care: Help look after and take care of animals.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Farming: Plant crops, sow seeds and help in outside tasks.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

Additional fee required

Amount: € 20 Per day

Fee pays for: Benefits for travelers, Materials for volunteer activities, and Donation to project

Description: Volunteers will contribute with 20 euro per day to help with accommodation, training and orientation and also other program costs such as transport to sites within the project area for purposes of the project.

Program Details

This volunteer program contributes to the sustainable development of the Kalamos and Kastos Islands. Based at the Kalamos Island Biological Field Station, volunteers help protect local ecosystems, promote sustainable agriculture, and restore biodiversity. Activities are planned individually or as part of pre-arranged projects in areas like ecology, marine conservation, reforestation, and wildlife management.

Activities & Shift

Volunteers may take part in one or more of the following activities:

Building the Kalamos eco-community and organic farm 🌱

Feral cat monitoring on Kalamos, Kastos & nearby islands 🐾

Marine ecosystems monitoring & data collection 🌊

Ornithological (bird habitat) surveys 🕊️

Sustainable agriculture & forest restoration 🌾

Other thematic areas include marine ecology, biodiversity restoration, pollution reduction, and sustainable fisheries.


Rules

Minimum stay: 15 days

Participation fee: €20/day (includes accommodation, basic facilities & Wi-Fi)

No meal plan provided (food available in local shops; group meal plan possible for 5+ volunteers)

Volunteers must be in good physical condition (terrain includes many uphill paths)

Respect the environment, local community, and project guidelines

Be proactive, adaptable, and ready for hands-on work in nature
