The experience

The Akuratatha Organization runs a small elders’ home in Akuressa, providing shelter and care for twelve elderly women who no longer have families to support them.
As a volunteer, you’ll play a meaningful role in improving their daily lives through emotional support, friendship, and small acts of service.

Your days may include sharing conversations, reading aloud, organizing games, singing, gardening, or simply spending quiet moments together.


What you offer

16 hours of help per week

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

Elderly Care: Assisting and spending time with the elderly.

Kitchen Hand: Help prepare, finish and serve meals.

Additional fee required

Amount: € 175 Per week

Fee pays for: Benefits for travelers, Materials for volunteer activities, and Donation to project

Description: Volunteers contribute €140/week, covering air-conditioned rooms with king-size beds, all meals, and filtered drinking water. The fee includes airport transfers, local trips and picnics, and a donation to support Akuratatha’s children’s home and community projects. This ensures comfort, cultural experiences, and meaningful impact during your stay.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.

Program Details

Activities & Shift

Activities:
Volunteers engage in a variety of meaningful tasks to support the elderly women and enrich their daily lives:

Companionship & conversation: Spend quality time talking, listening, and sharing stories.

Creative activities: Lead or assist with music, arts, crafts, games, and gardening.

Daily assistance: Help with light household tasks, meal support, and mobility.

Special events: Organize or support birthdays, festivals, or cultural celebrations.

Optional cross-program support: Assist at Akuratatha’s preschool or children’s home if interested.

Shifts / Working Hours:

4–5 hours per day, 5 days a week

Flexible schedule allowing volunteers to balance activities with free time

Morning and afternoon shifts generally allow for participation in multiple activities and some optional cultural excursions.

Volunteers can adjust hours in coordination with staff to suit personal strengths, energy levels, and project needs.
