Program Details

Duration: Flexible (1 week to several months)
Program Overview: Since its inception in 2009, we have empowered over 500 Tanzanian women and youth facing socioeconomic challenges through artisanal training and entrepreneurship. This social enterprise creates sustainable, handcrafted products—woven textiles, beaded jewelry, and batik/sewn goods—celebrating African heritage while fostering financial independence and breaking gender barriers.

Role Description:
As a volunteer, you’ll engage in a vibrant, creative environment at our workshop, supporting local artisans in raising awareness about their work and social impact. Your work will directly contribute to empowering local communities, particularly women and youth, by promoting their work through the internet. No prior experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Tasks are tailored to your skills and interests, ensuring meaningful impact.

Activities & Shift

Key Responsibilities:
• Skill-Based Contributions:
Content Creation: Shoot short Reels/TikToks of weaving workshops, artisan stories, and cultural tours; write engaging blog posts and captions highlighting impact.
Social Media Management: Schedule posts across Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok; grow followers with targeted hashtags (#ArushaCrafts #SustainableTravel); monitor analytics and respond to DMs/comments.
Visuals & Branding: Edit photos/videos (Canva/CapCut); design simple graphics for campaigns; collaborate on email newsletters.
Designers: Lead workshops on sustainable fashion or pattern-making.
Marketers: Develop social media campaigns or market stall strategies to promote products locally and online.
Business Volunteers: Support entrepreneurship training or streamline sales processes.
Specialized Crafts: Carpenters or jewelers can innovate with upcycled materials for eco-friendly designs.
Cultural Exchange: Participate in community engagement activities, sharing ideas and learning from artisans to foster mutual growth.
Market Support: Occasionally assist at local markets, promoting fair trade and ethical souvenirs.
• Craft Support: Assist artisans in weaving cotton shawls, carpets, or blankets, or creating beaded jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings) inspired by Maasai and Swahili designs. Learn and teach basic techniques like sewing or beading to enhance production.
• Product Development: Collaborate on designing new products, blending traditional African patterns with modern aesthetics for global appeal.
