The experience

Hello, I am Wan. I host travelers in Penang who want to learn Thai language and culture before visiting Thailand. You’ll join me in language exchange, share your culture, and help with light house tasks like tidying or organizing. In return, I’ll teach you Thai basics, useful travel phrases, and tips about food, lifestyle, and traditions. A relaxed and friendly exchange for curious, open-minded people.

What you offer

18 hours of help per week

Cooking: Choose the menu, pick ingredients and cook delicious dishes.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Free Tours: We’ll take you on tours and rides around town. For free!

Free Hiking Tours: We’ll take you on excursions and hikes around town. For free!

Get free drinks or beverages.: Drink up! Get free and tasty drinks for yourself.

Free Parties: Get free entrance for the best parties in town.

Free Events: Get free entrance for the best events in town.

Pub Crawls: Be a part of our pub crawls at local bars!

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Fast Internet Access: High-speed internet for you to work remotely

Over 18 years old

Only hosts solo volunteers (doesn’t accept couples or partners)

Be from outside Malaysia

Program Details

You’ll take part in Thai–English language exchange, share cultural experiences, and help with light house tasks like tidying and organizing. In return, you’ll learn Thai basics, travel tips, and insights into Thai lifestyle and traditions while enjoying free time to explore Penang.

Rules

-Respect the house, shared spaces, and belongings.

-Keep things tidy and clean after yourself.

-Alcohol is present at home (social drinking is fine, but no excessive use).

-Pork and non-halal food are in the house — please join only if you’re comfortable with this.

-Be polite, open-minded, and respectful of different cultures.

-Quiet hours after 11 PM.

-Guests or visitors only with prior permission.
