Program Details

At The Banana Tree Hostel in Tam Coc, Ninh Binh, we believe travel is about people, stories, and unforgettable moments. That’s why we welcome volunteers to help us create the best guest experience possible.

As a volunteer, you’ll join our friendly Vietnamese team and be part of the social heart of the hostel — hosting events, chatting with travelers, and making sure everyone feels welcome. In return, you’ll get free accommodation, meals, and plenty of time to explore the incredible landscapes of Ninh Binh (think: limestone mountains, rice fields, caves, and rivers).

This program is perfect if you’re outgoing, love connecting with people, and want to experience Vietnamese hospitality from the inside. You’ll practice English (and maybe some Vietnamese), learn about our culture, and help create a positive, fun atmosphere that guests will remember long after they’ve left.

Activities & Shift

What you’ll do:

Help organize and host hostel social events (pub quiz, beer pong, bingo, movie night, family dinners, etc.)

Chat with guests, introduce them to each other, and encourage participation in events and tours organised by the hostel

Assist reception/FOH team with guest experience (welcoming guests, answering questions, guiding them to tours or events)

Support the bar team during events (simple tasks like serving drinks, collecting cups, keeping the area tidy)

Share ideas for new events or activities that make the hostel even more fun

Your shift schedule:

Around 25 hours per week (5 shifts x 5 hours)

Mostly afternoon/evening shifts (when events take place)

2 days off per week — plenty of time to explore Ninh Binh’s beautiful landscapes

Rules

Follow the house rules of the hostel for all guests and also the following:

Respect guests, staff, and fellow volunteers at all times.

No being drunk or overly hungover during your shift (you can enjoy the parties, but stay responsible).

Be on time and ready for your scheduled work time.

Keep shared staff areas tidy and respect hostel property.

Help create a positive, welcoming vibe for everyone — this is what makes the Banana Tree special!
