The experience

Hi! I’m Lili from Sarang Cookery, a traditional Peranakan and Malaysian cooking school in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Me and my elderly mom run this space together, preserving precious recipes and passing them on with love.

We’re now expanding into online classes — and we’d love your help! As a volunteer, you’ll support both our physical and online projects while being part of our home-style kitchen and warm Malaysian culture.


What you offer

30 hours of help per week

Content Writer: Write, edit and publish inspiring content.

Video Making: Create, edit and publish digital videos.

Party Promoter: Help organise and promote parties and social activities.

Social Media: Maintain and update social media channels.


What you get

2 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely


Requirements

Intermediate English or Intermediate Chinese

Over 20 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers


What's not included

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa


Program Details

You’ll be contributing to the preservation of traditional food culture and helping us grow in a conscious, meaningful way. Some days will be lively with guests, while others are slower and focused on filming or creative work.

Be part of our family and experience Asian family values and traditions up close. Your role includes:

Supporting cooking classes (setup, ingredient prep, cleaning, organizing)
Creating a smooth experience for our guests
Helping with our online class project (camera setup, filming, behind-the-scenes content)
Editing videos or helping with social media


Activities & Shift

We need you to be flexible so it's only suitable if you're committed to volunteer your time. 2 days days per week. Our cooking class runs either morning or afternoon- you will be notify as bookings are confirmed.
We can be very busy at times & peaceful when non-busy, we need you to be flexible,


Rules

To maintain a peaceful and respectful environment for everyone, we kindly ask that you follow these important guidelines:

1) No food is allowed in the rooms to keep spaces clean and avoid attracting pests.
2) Our premises strictly follow a no pork, no smoking, and no drugs policy.
3) We are a quiet, early-rising household and not suitable for party-goers, drinkers, or those who enjoy late nights.
4) If you plan to go out in the evening, please return by 10PM. If you’re unable to make it back on time, we kindly ask that you make arrangements to stay elsewhere for the night.

These rules are in place to respect our family, our values, and our shared living space. Your cooperation ensures a comfortable and safe experience for all.
