Description:
The $10 daily fee covers your accommodation and breakfast. A scooter is also available for rent at the location. You'll be staying with a host family near the project site.

Only hosts solo volunteers (doesn’t accept couples or partners)

Program Details
This immersive languages teaching program is designed for volunteers passionate about education and cultural exchange. Set in a traditional pesantren (Islamic boarding school) nestled deep in the forest near Aik Berik Waterfall, where infrastructure is limited, you’ll support young students in learning languages (English, French, Arabic, Germany, etc) in grammar and conversation.
You'll live with a local Muslim family and experience Indonesia’s peaceful religious life firsthand, close to khair.
Activities & Shift
🕋 Typical Day at Pesantren
Morning (7 AM – 11 AM)
• Teach languages or beginner grammar
• Support reading fluency
• Join teacher’s meeting
Midday (11 AM – 2 PM)
• Halal lunch with host family
• Free time, journaling, or rest
Afternoon (3 PM – 5 PM)
• Support learning sessions
• Organize fun games, or storytelling
• Walk with students to waterfalls or nature for informal practice
Evening (Optional | 6 PM – 8 PM)
• Join community night activities

Lombok is a culturally conservative Muslim island. Your behavior will directly reflect your respect for Islam and the host community. Please follow these values:

• Dress modestly at all times (loose-fitting clothes, headscarf for women).
• • Participate in religious events when invited.
• Be truthful about your background; no criminal or extremist history.
• Cover tattoos and remove piercings during volunteer time.
• Respect in speech, conduct, and attitude toward elders and teachers.
❌ DON’Ts for Volunteers
• No public religious debates, criticism of scholars, or political talks.
• Avoid bringing in sectarian books or doctrines.
• No smoking, drugs, alcohol, or PDA on site.
• No mockery of local rituals, niqab, or prayer styles.
• Do not disrupt prayer times or village quiet hours.
• Do not teach non-Islamic content or media during class time.
