Program Details

Hi, we're Nat and Damo!

We live just outside Bundaberg, Queensland on 34 acres of bushland with our daughter Holly and our two dogs, Banjo and Lana. Most of the property is natural bush filled with gum trees and kangaroos — and we’re slowly creating a more sustainable lifestyle on the cleared section using permaculture principles.

Our home is a 75-year-old Queenslander that (along with the property) needs lots of love! We’d love your help with things like:

Gardening, weeding, planting

General maintenance (mowing, whipper snipping)

Cleaning, cooking, painting

Basic building or fencing (if you’re keen to learn — or already skilled!)

Damo is a fitter and turner who loves teaching new skills like tractor driving or fencing. I’m a Year 6 teacher. We’ve travelled to 50+ countries together, been helpers ourselves, and enjoy sharing culture and conversation.

If this sounds like your kind of place, send us a message with a little about yourself and your availability.

Thanks for your interest!

– Nat, Damo, Holly, Banjo and Lana

Activities & Shift

We’re currently working on a range of outdoor and indoor projects, and the work varies depending on your skills and interests. Tasks may include:

General Help: gardening, mowing, weeding, planting, digging, basic maintenance

Building Projects (based on skills): shed repair, greenhouse construction, fire pit, outdoor play area, veggie stalls, veggie garden beds, etc.

Household Tasks: cleaning, meal prep, basic cooking/ baking

Other: language exchange (Spanish), ukulele lessons, photography, child-friendly projects

The work is physical and hands-on, so reasonable fitness is essential. We are flexible with hours — usually 4–5 hours a day, 5 days a week — and we’re happy to tailor the tasks based on your strengths.

When you message us, let us know your skills and what you’re most interested in doing — we’ll do our best to match you with suitable jobs!

Rules

To make sure everyone enjoys their stay, we ask that you please:

Be currently in Australia — we can't accept overseas applicants at this time

Respect our water use — we rely on tank water, so short showers and mindful water use are essential

Be OK with a mostly vegetarian lifestyle — we occasionally eat meat or fish, but don’t cater for daily meat-based meals

Be non-smoking — smoking, including vaping, is not permitted anywhere on the property

Be tidy, responsible, and proactive — we’ll treat you like family and appreciate the same in return

We offer a peaceful, authentic Aussie bush experience with plenty of time to relax and enjoy nature. Evenings are often spent by the campfire, stargazing, swapping stories, or joining us on beach adventures.
