The experience

A multilingual family of four on Portugal’s Silver Coast offers a permaculture homestead experience. Join them in developing a food forest, raising ducks and geese, and homeschooling with a Montessori-inspired method. Volunteers help with gardening, DIY builds, animal care, and more. Accommodation includes furnished apartments, shared meals, and a solar-powered setup. Ideal for those passionate about sustainability, community, and nature.


What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

Animal Care: Help look after and take care of animals.

Building & Repairing: Help with a wide range of repairs or building.

Farming: Plant crops, sow seeds and help in outside tasks.


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Bikes at your disposal: You can use our bikes any time you want.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Fast Internet Access: High-speed internet for you to work remotely

Dedicated Workspace: Specific space for you to work remotely


Requirements

Intermediate English or Intermediate Portuguese

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

This is a family-led permaculture homestead on Portugal's Silver Coast, run by a multilingual couple with two young daughters. The land is being developed into a food forest with animals, gardens, and sustainable systems. They live simply, use solar power, and follow a nature-connected lifestyle, blending homeschooling with outdoor learning and permaculture values.


Activities & Shift

Volunteers help with a variety of tasks, including:

Gardening (planting, weeding, harvesting)

Compost management

Animal care (ducks, geese)

Small construction or DIY projects

Preserving food or cooking

Occasionally helping with the children

Usually 5 hours a day, 5 days a week — but the schedule can be flexible and shaped around shared needs and the weather.


Rules

Minimum stay: 2 weeks

No drugs or heavy drinking

Respect for nature and animals is essential

Shared responsibility for keeping spaces clean

Accommodation in a private furnished space with shared meals

Vegan/vegetarian-friendly kitchen

Respect for the family’s quiet and intentional lifestyle
