Program Details

Hi, we are Guillermo, Alicia and Javier and The Jungle Hub is our dream of living sustainably in nature come true! We are guardians of this 4 hectares of paradise that we have been regenerating since 2013. We moved here permanently in 2020, started hosting volunteers in 2021, and retreats in 2023.

For us, Permaculture includes all aspects of life – from building houses to preparing food. We aim to create a permanent culture and inspire others. Completely off-grid, we live simply using solar power and grow much of our food. We bake sourdough bread, make kombucha, and serve healthy meals. We love music, bonfire singing, yoga, meditation, and discussing spirituality.

We established Jungle Hub as a nature retreat center because we believe that connecting to nature reconnects us to our true selves. This is our purpose and we are dedicated to achieving it.

Activities & Shift

As a cook volunteer at The Jungle Hub, your main responsibility will be the planing and preparation of meals. We place enormous importance on healthy, farm-to-table, vegetarian, delicious food. We buy our bulk produce at the Farmer's Market of San Ramón, the largest in the country. We also have a small green house where we are experimenting with growing various veggies and have many fruit trees. Experience in vegetarian cooking is a must, but we do have an extensive curated recipe book. You will be serving guests and handling hospitality tasks. You'll also help to keep it clean and assist during retreats.

When there is no retreat happening, your schedule will be more flexible, with various tasks such as working in the garden (weeding, planting, watering, etc.), helping with maintenance, or engaging in art projects. We don't host retreats every week, so as a long-term volunteer, you'll experience both retreat and non-retreat periods, allowing for a diverse and enriching experience.

Additionally, you are welcome to offer workshops or activities suitable to the retreat.

Rules

We will try to accommodate your volunteering experience during high season, in order to be able to afford to have you here free of charge. You can opt to volunteer during low-income periods if you contribute with $25 daily.
Pick-up and drop-off is always on Fridays; otherwise, volunteers must pay for their own taxi. Volunteers are expected to stay at the farm for the entire duration of their stay, except for Fridays when we do the grocery shopping at the farmers market in the city. Punctuality and a serious work ethic are essential, as we depend on your help to run the retreat center smoothly. We are alcohol free, lights-out is at 10 pm.
