Program Details

The Coral Reef Restoration Volunteer Program in Gili Nanggu, West Lombok, offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute directly to the conservation and restoration of the region’s vibrant coral ecosystems. Situated in the heart of Indonesia’s Coral Triangle, Gili Nanggu is home to diverse marine life and coral species that are essential for the health of the ocean.

As a volunteer, you will actively participate in the restoration of coral reefs through activities such as coral planting, reef monitoring, and underwater cleaning. The program is structured to give you an in-depth understanding of coral ecosystems, their role in ocean health, and the challenges they face due to climate change and human activity.

How the Program Works:

Coral Planting: You’ll assist in planting coral fragments to rehabilitate damaged reefs. This involves careful placement of coral pieces to foster growth and support biodiversity.

Reef Monitoring: Volunteers help conduct surveys to assess the health of the reefs, track coral regeneration, and document marine life that depends on the ecosystem.

Underwater Cleaning: Participate in efforts to remove debris and pollutants from the coral areas, which helps improve water quality and promotes healthier reef environments.

Education and Training: Throughout the program, you’ll receive training from marine biologists and conservation experts about reef health, coral biology, and sustainable practices to protect marine ecosystems.

The program is divided into morning and afternoon shifts, where volunteers will alternate between practical activities and educational sessions. You'll be guided by experienced instructors who ensure safety while working underwater and provide insights into the ecological significance of coral reefs.
