Activities & Shift
Wondering what a day with us looks like?
In the Morning:
Join us in the kitchen to create wonderful meals from local produce, and help us prepare our common areas for the day's activities. You'll also get to help in unique ways, whether it's organizing fascinating scientific gear or arranging a space for storytelling.
In the Afternoon:
This is when we truly connect. Pull up a chair for lunch, where friendly conversations often about exciting new projects. You can help assisting with a language exchange, or team up with a local innovator to test their latest app. You might also get to be a scientist for the day, helping our guests with their research, who knows.
In the Evening:
You can help bring to life our cultural evenings, where we tell stories with our locals or international guests.
Every task here at River House, from preparing meals to organizing research material, becomes an opportunity for connection.
Rules
These simple guidelines help us keep that special atmosphere alive, making it easy for everyone to connect and learn.
Being Kind and Courteous: Everyone's Journey Matters: We believe everyone has something valuable to share. Whether you're chatting with a fellow volunteer, a staff member, a guest, or someone from the local community, approach them with an open mind. We believe in treating everyone with the same respect, from a world-renowned expert to a local fisherman.
Friendly Professionalism: While we love seeing genuine connections form, please remember to keep interactions professional. We have a zero tolerance policy for harassment, discrimination, or any behavior that makes others feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We want our learning environment to be a happy, safe space for everyone.
Embrace Our Differences: We're a diverse community, and that's awesome! Be open to different communication styles, customs, and ways of seeing the world. If you're ever unsure, it's always best to politely ask rather than make assumptions.
Family Friendly Vibes: River House is a welcoming place for families, including little ones and babies. Please be mindful of your language, voice level, and conversation topics in our common areas so everyone feels comfortable.
Smoking Spot: If you smoke, please use the designated area. This helps us keep the air fresh and clean for everyone, especially children and those with sensitivities.
Quiet Time: We all need our rest.
