Support our fun English Summer Camp for local kids in Nara!

The experience

Join our English Summer Camp in a small town in Nara! We welcome travelers to help Japanese kids (ages 10-15) enjoy fun activities like games, crafts, and outdoor play – all in English. No Japanese is required, just a friendly smile and a love for working with children! You’ll stay with locals, experience Japanese culture, and make lasting memories with the community.

Note: This is a one-time pilot camp (Aug 2–4 2025); future dates TBD.

What you offer

18 hours of help per week

Cooking: Choose the menu, pick ingredients and cook delicious dishes.

Child Care: Caring for, playing with, and spending time with children.

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

What you get

4 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Tent: You will sleep in a tent at a camping site.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Free Events: Get free entrance for the best events in town.

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely

Intermediate English

Between 18 and 69 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

Our English Summer Camp provides local Japanese kids (ages 6–12) the chance to use English through fun and engaging activities. As a volunteer, you’ll help create a positive, immersive environment. No Japanese is needed. Volunteers stay with locals and join community meals and activities.

Activities & Shift

This is a 3-day, 2-night English Summer Camp. Volunteers will join most activities alongside the kids and staff, including games, outdoor play, and meals. We expect you to be present and engaged during the day. About 1 hour of free time is scheduled daily. We also offer chances to learn basic Japanese through interaction and short lessons!

Rules

- Please be respectful and positive around children
- No alcohol or smoking during the program
- Help with light chores (cleaning up, assisting meals)
- Basic travel insurance is recommended
- Please inform us in advance if your schedule changes
