After the heartbreaking loss of my beloved daughter, I found myself engulfed in a profound sorrow that opened my eyes to the relentless suffering within the walls of this hospital. Each day, I witnessed countless families, just like mine, desperately striving to secure the medications their children so desperately needed. The journey to a referral hospital, a grueling 80 kilometers from our hometown, felt insurmountable, especially for those without connections to guide them through the maze of healthcare.
Imagine the agony we endured, knowing that it took us an entire month to discover our child was battling a severe heart disease. By the time we finally learned the truth, it was tragically too late for surgery. If only access to these vital services had been easier, perhaps our precious child would still be with us today. Each day, we stood helplessly in the emergency room, witnessing the heartbreaking loss of so many innocent children, their lives extinguished not by fate, but by the cruel hand of financial barriers that kept them from receiving the care they needed.
In Uganda, a staggering 152 out of every 1,000 children do not survive to their fifth birthday, with nearly half of all infants lost before their first year, largely due to preventable diseases. The situation is exacerbated by undernutrition and a healthcare system that is often inaccessible, especially in Bugiri.
In the face of this overwhelming despair, our project emerges as a beacon of hope. We aim to construct a health center that will significantly reduce access barriers by 85%, enhancing the quality of care for children and pregnant mothers. We will provide vital services, including voluntary counseling and testing, striving to uplift the community and improve the quality of life for all.
