Program Details

Hi! I’m Philip, originally from Australia, and I’ve been living around Lake Atitlán on and off for the past few years. I’m currently developing a small off-grid property in Tzununa into a permaculture garden 🐾

This is a great time to volunteer, as we’re finalizing key parts of the design and preparing for the rainy season. We’ll be planting, digging swales, making compost systems, ponds, and water channels — all based on permaculture principles 🌿

I host volunteers for 1–2 weeks, offering a tent stay with daily breakfast included. You’ll help about 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday, doing light garden tasks (I have workers for the heavy stuff).

Weekends are totally free, and you’ll have time to enjoy the lake and surroundings.
Occasionally, we’ll share extra meals together informally. There are also great local food spots nearby like Granja Tzikin, Maltiox, and Balam.

Some permaculture/gardening experience is a plus, but not required — just a good attitude and love for nature ✨

Activities & Shift

Here’s a general flow of our day (flexible depending on weather and energy):

7:00 AM – Wake up

7:30 AM – Optional morning breathwork or yoga on the balcony 🧘

8:30–9:30 AM – Gardening (watering, planting, weeding, light tasks) 🌱

9:30–10:00 AM – Breakfast together 🍽️

10:00 AM onward – Discussion of daily tasks (you’ll self-manage your time)

We aim for a relaxed, intentional rhythm — balancing work, reflection, and connection.
