Join Us in Socotra for a Creative Cultural Exchange!

We warmly invite potters, weavers, basket makers, dressmakers, crafters of all kinds, and artists to be part of a unique residency experience on the island of Socotra. Through our Socotra Creative Center, you’ll engage in hands-on workshops, share your skills with local communities. Our goal is to create lasting impact—by the end of your stay, you will have passed on your skills to the Locals.

What you offer

30 hours of help per week

Social Media: Maintain and update social media channels.

Painting & Decorating: Help with painting or decorating the property facilities.

Music: Perform to entertain guests, children or local communities.

Arts: Help with painting, graffiti, sculpting or drawing.

What you get

5 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Discounts on Tours: Get discounts for tours and excursions around town.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely

Dedicated Workspace: Specific space for you to work remotely

Requirements

Beginner Arabic or Fluent English

Between 18 and 40 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

European Union Passport

United States visa or citizenship

Program Details

**Socotra Creative Residency Program:**
Join us on Socotra Island for workshops, village visits, and studio training as part of a cultural exchange. You'll share your craft, train dedicated trainees, and help preserve local skills. The program blends creativity, community engagement, and exploration of Socotra's beauty, leaving a lasting impact on the local culture.

Activities & Shift

Daily Activities (5 Days per Week):

1. Morning:
- Workshops: Skill-sharing in pottery, weaving, basket-making, and other crafts.
- School Visits: Deliver cultural presentations and interactive sessions for students.

2. Afternoon:
- Community Presentations: Showcase creative processes and techniques in local gatherings.
- Studio Work: Collaborate with and train dedicated trainees.

Days Off:
Volunteers have two days of leisure each week, where they can relax, explore Socotra’s scenic landscapes, or enjoy optional cultural activities.

This structure balances productivity with well-deserved rest and cultural immersion.

Rules

Participants are reminded to respect Socotra's natural environment—no collecting shells or stones—and its Islamic traditions, including modest dress and cultural sensitivity during all activities.
