Help My Mom with Cooking and Grocery Shopping in Cusco
The experience
We are looking for one caring and respectful volunteer to help my 74-year-old mother with everyday tasks in the kitchen and market. This is a family-based exchange, perfect for someone who enjoys cooking, chatting, and learning from the traditions of the Peruvian Andes.
What you offer
5 hours of help per day
Cleaning:
Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.
Housekeeping:
Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.
Kitchen Hand:
Help prepare, finish and serve meals.
Cooking:
Choose the menu, pick ingredients and cook delicious dishes.
What you get
3 days off per week
Private Room:
You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.
Breakfast:
You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.
Lunch:
You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.
Free Laundry:
You can use our laundry room freely.
Bikes at your disposal:
You can use our bikes any time you want.
Use our equipped kitchen:
Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.
Basic Internet Access:
Basic speed internet for you to work remotely
Dedicated Workspace:
Specific space for you to work remotely
Requirements
Intermediate Spanish and Intermediate English
Between 25 and 60 years old
Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers
Academy Course How to become an outstanding Worldpacker
Be from outside Peru
European Union Passport
United States visa or citizenship

Program Details
The exchange is ideal for someone who enjoys cooking, learning about traditional Andean life, and spending time with kind and curious people. My mother is warm, loves conversation, and is always excited to learn about other cultures. Your support helps her maintain a healthy and active daily rhythm.
You’ll have free time every afternoon to rest, read, or visit Cusco or the Sacred Valley. We welcome volunteers who are kind, organized, and genuinely enjoy being part of a home.

Activities & Shift
🧺 Your tasks may include:
- Helping to prepare breakfast for everyone at home: my mom, César, any volunteers caring for the pets, and yourself
- Accompanying my mom to the local market (once or twice a week)
- Carrying shopping bags and helping choose ingredients
- Washing vegetables, peeling potatoes, and organizing food
- Helping clean the kitchen after meals
- Occasionally preparing simple meals or sharing a recipe from your country
Time commitment:
5 hours per day, Monday to Thursday— only in the mornings
Rules
- Keep the kitchen clean and organized after each use
- Respect the way my mom cooks and organizes her space — she has her own rhythm and routines
- Be punctual for market days and cooking times
- Use ingredients responsibly, especially if they are shared
- Ask before inviting others to cook or eat in the kitchen
- No outside visitors without prior permission
- Be mindful of water and gas usage
- Share your presence: a simple conversation or helping hand means a lot in our home
