The experience

NGO school in Shangarai, Tanzania, providing education to children from extremely poor backgrounds. To accommodate our growing number of students, we urgently need two new classrooms. What you offer

15 hours of help per week

Content Writer: Write, edit and publish inspiring content.

Web Developer: Help develop and maintain websites.


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Discounts on Tours: Get discounts for tours and excursions around town.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Free Hiking Tours: We’ll take you on excursions and hikes around town. For free!

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Program Details

Private room with bathroom: Volunteers will have their own room with an attached bathroom for privacy and comfort.

Support and training: Volunteers will receive assistance and training for all tasks to ensure they feel confident and prepared.

Three meals a day: Three meals per day are provided, offering a variety of local food to experience the traditional cuisine.

Language exchange: We are interested in all languages and are happy to teach Swahili as well, offering a great opportunity for cultural and language exchange.

The Shifts are at least three hours per day/5 days a week.


Activities & Shift

Volunteers have the opportunity to engage in various activities and contribute to the development of our NGO school in Arusha. The tasks include:

• Teaching English: Assisting children in learning English through interactive and playful teaching methods.
• Painting & Decorating: Enhancing the school environment by painting classrooms and engaging in creative projects.
• Construction: Helping with minor construction and renovation work to improve the school facilities.
• Gardening: Creating and maintaining school gardens to promote sustainable agriculture.
• Day-to-Day Activities & Recreation: Playing, engaging in creative activities, and sports with the children.
• Home Visits: Visiting local families to better understand the community and provide support.
• Drawing & Arts: Encouraging children's creative skills through drawing and painting.
• Online Work: Supporting crowdfunding campaigns, social media management, and marketing to raise awareness and collect donations for the school.


Rules

We live a simple, family-oriented lifestyle focused on community, respect, and sustainability. Here are a few things to keep in mind during your stay:

Respect for local customs: Our community has strong traditions, and we encourage you to embrace them, especially regarding dress codes and behavior in public spaces. Being polite, kind, and open to cultural differences will go a long way.

Quiet hours: We keep the household peaceful and quiet after 10:00 PM to ensure everyone gets enough rest for the next day.

Meals: We typically eat together as a family, and we encourage you to join us for the meals provided. If you have dietary restrictions or preferences, please let us know in advance.

Cleanliness: We maintain a clean and organized home. Please help with simple daily tasks such as cleaning up after meals and keeping your room tidy.
No smoking or drinking alcohol inside the house. If you need to smoke, please do so outside in designated areas.

Interaction with the community: We encourage you to participate in local activities, but always ensure you ask for permission and show respect towards the community members.
